Is a kind of swap in which the Palestinian gain control over the
Muslim holy places above the Temple mount, which Muslim call
The Noble Sanctuary, but give up claims of the right of refugees to Return what is now Israel?

Of course there will have to be compromise on the issues at hand. There was a letter to the editor of that left wing rag, USA today, written by a Muhammed somebody, which laid out where comrpomises by both sides need to be made. It was well written, although Israel will never agree to a return to the pre-1967 borders. But something approaching most of the west bank and gaza is feasible, as is compensation for land lost. I think the compensation peice is critical and Arafat should push it instead of a right to return, which truth be told most Palestinians don't want anyway.

Time sahib, time. Time is working against the Palestinians. The longer the Palestinians remain outside of Israel, the harder it is to get back. There is no doubt that allowing the refugees to return to Israel would pose a HUGE security risk for the State. I don't think any non-Arab country would contest that. I think the best the refugees can hope for (and should hold out for) is reasonably compensation for property lost. If they can get that, and are allowed to settle in either Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Saudi Arabia (all border states) or Palestine, and assume the citizenship of one of those states, I think that is doable. It's not completely fair, but with the cards the way the are, I think its the best deal possible. The longer the fighting goes on, in the long run, the better for the Israelis.
