Even though I came up with the discussion, I realized that there is not, just ONE favorite author, but actually quite a few. So I came to the conclusion of just listing the top 5, most amazing authors of all time (for moi).

Danielle Steel,
David Baldacci,
Barbara Taylor,
John Grisham,

and last but not least,

SIDNEY SHELDON!

Salama...

How about the Author of the Qur'aanka Kariimka?

For honest, including me, how many times do we read Quraanka Kariimka?

Aside from any, any authentic Islaamic books' authors--my intriguing author is:

Sidney Sheldon.

Though, some of his books do have indeed dirty things. But, I slip them.

Jane Austen- all her books but my most favourite is "Pride and Prejudice"
Thomas Hardy --"Tess of the D'Ubervilles", "Jude the obsecure"
Charles Dickens--"Oliver Twist"
Robin Cook--"Chromosome 6"
The Bronte Sisters--Charlotte, Anne and Emily
"Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre"
and my favourite children's writer is Roal Dahl who wrote "Charly and the Chocolate factory, Charlottes Web, and Witches (I think)"
Margeret Lawrence (Canadain auther who wrote "The prophet's Camel", and "Stone Angel":O

Toni Morrison's stories are too proverse for me, I can't deal with tales of incest and so much woe.

J.K. Rowlings "Harry Potter tales" aren't bad at all, they are quite creative and appeal to the kid in us. I recommend it to all the young tykes, but it's a good read for older folks too.

Salama...

Mad-Cap-Mac:

I believe M. Atwood is a contemporary prominent Canadian author; she had won some crap award from England, but lost one the crapest achievement award:

Nobel Prize Literature Award.

Why is everyone is behind this author:

Sidney Sheldon.

For real, I thought the only Soomaali who read his books is me. But, alas, now I do know there are tons out there.

P.S.: He is not a 'woman,' thus he prefers to be called 'Sidney.' Not Sydney. Since Sydney mostly associated with a femine name.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Favorite sonnet, Hmmmmmmm, it would have to be "Shall I Compare Thee(sonnet-XVIII)".

Favorite play, ouch! I liked "Romeo and Juliet", but my all time favorite play by William Shakespeare has got to be "Hamlet", staring Mel Gibson- he is an amazing actor.

If you haven't seen it yet, man I honestly recommend that you do!

I have to agree with Dadiir that Cheik Anta Diop has writen some masterpieces although they are rather books that expose the true history of the world than novels. If you like his books I would also recommend Ivan Van Sertimer and his books.

As for novels and so on, i am unqualified to give an opinion since i do not read to many novels. Malcolm X self biography was nice as well as Muhammad Ali:s but that is it on my behalf!!

My favourite sonnet is sonnet 18:

This is how it goes I think, I have memorised when I was doing my English L&L:

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines
And often is his gold complexion dimmed;
And every fair from fair sometimes declines,
By chance or nature's changing course untrimmed;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possesion of that fair thou own'st;
Nor shall death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st:
So long as men can breath, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

And the play has be be Hamlet!.

And When people ask, 'Why do you like Hamlet?', I say all the answers are contained in Bleak Midwinter. Those answers include: I don't know. I have to. It's funny. It's marvellous. It's ridiculous. It's meaningful. It's meaningless

I hope that you do not perceive me as An Eglish
intemperate.

Yeah, I missed and missed and missed to name this particular author; she is the one who wrote a lengthy book. And the book is:

"Arfu-Layl-Waa-Layl!"

There is no name I think I can name at this moment, but she is above all. I read the stories from Shabeele Press, oo lagu soo taabici jirey Xamar dagaala kabacdi.

Ar maxey sheeko aheyd, sheekadaas. Qiso ay aheyd. Sheeko ciyaal ay u badnayeen, but I was a child at that time, so wonder not. She is above all, even above Sidney Sheldon.

To those who are not familiar with the above mentioned title, the English version is this:

"One Thousand and One Night or Carabian Nights."
