CULTURALLY,BEHAVIOUR,AND STANDARD OF LIVING. SINCE WE CAME FROM THE WAR,I TRAVELED ALOT FROM ETHIOPIA TO DOWN SOUTH-AFRICA,EUROPE,AMERICA. SAW MANY WESTERN AFRICA IN EUROPE BUT THEY ALL LOOK SAME WITH THOSE IN AFRICA AND IN AMERICA, SAME STORY WORSE IS THESE HAVE A LITTLE BIT NICE LIFE AND THEY BECAME MORE DIFFERENT. IN ALL THOSE BLACKS I SAW I COULDNT GET ALONG WITH THEM CAUSE THEY DRINK,SMOKE, AND LIKE TO HAVE SEX BEFORE MARRIAGE. BUT WE ARE FAR FROM THAT. ETHIOPIANS ARE REALLY LOOK CLOSE TO US BUT THEY POSSES THOSE CHARACTERISTICS. SO JUST WANNA KNOW "CAN WE CALL OURSELF SOMALIS OR BLACKS? PERSONALLY AFTER MY INVESTIGATION I WONT CALL MYSELF BLACK"JUST TO SAY THAT IN ADVANCE. HOPE THIS IS A DISCUSSION AND OTHER BLACKS CANT TAKE SERIOUS Kaltuun

| | Monday, January 22, 2001 - 01:05 pm Hello kaltuun, I think of course first and foremost somalis are somalis,but in terms of percentage - dna,somalis are probably closer to blacks.If you've travelled all over the world and africa,you should know that blacks come in many different colors.There are somalis from the south,who are darker skinned than most zulus.You may be talking more along-the-lines of culture than race!.I am currently living in the united states and I know some young somali guys,who pass for american blacks(in appearance).They look somali,but not REAL SOMALI!.know what I mean? I mean,if somalis aren't blacks,then that must mean that the northern isaqs(who tend to be lighter skinned and more chiseled looking) are more SOMALI the those somalis from the southern tribes,who can be black as tar(no offense). shimbir

But, if u mean, are we "Blacks", the term describing the peoples that were enslaved and abused by Europeans than the answer is no. But there is one point dicussible, if you write your aplication as black you will be considered as Black-American,and may be you won't get that job, so one day I wrote my job aplication as "black-Somali which I got finally. WHICH IS NOT TRUE OF COURSE. Back to the point : I think somalis and other africans are not black. we are people of colour like the chinese, indians, japanese and 70% of the world population. The term black is itself deragotory in that it is acronym used for anything evil and un-wanted. Somalis, have however, some characteritcs that they share with Ethiopians, eritereans and the people in the horn. We surely have alot in common. There is no race called Africans. but the people who live in africa are called Africans for semantic sake. The issue of north-south somali is irelevant in this issue because there is no physical, scientific evidence which speaks for differences between somalis anywhere. Climate, inter marriage with other people etc can affect skin-characterristics BUT NOT DNA set UP. In summary somalis have the same racial background. They are africans because they live in africa. They are black, because, the world has said we are blacks

Everywhere you look in this forums, it's only the Hawiye people who are making sense and if you really try to follow these forumss, i haven't see any Hawiye insulting or disrespecting other tribes. and those who do it are just reacting. Some of they younger generations in the diaspora are falling back and have no iddea about their history. i don't blame them becouse the parents are mostly uneducated coming from rural areas and as they find themselves in a new culture are struggling to survive. guys, please learn history and be more open minded. if yo have an issue woth some somali clan..then deal with it in a more civilised way.

Egyptian civilisation was a black one. Southern arabia like Yemen and Saudi arabia have been black . The origin of arab people is black. Ismael, the arab progenitor's mother was HAGAR or hajar, she was african. ARABIC LANGUAGE was created by african people. So please, don't be so ignorant. before you make any comment here read histoory books from ancient world. the other thing is all somalis are the same. there is no differences. but lately some of us have been brainwashed to beleive they are of arab origin. we share the religion with arabs and we have been culturally influenced by them like they did to turkish, aranian, pakistanis, indonesians, malayS, THE CHINESE... AND SO ON if u go to all muslim nations most of the people can speak arabic becouse it's the language of the KORAN. people have arabic names and that is ok. nothing wrong with it. actually ISLAM discourages RACISM and wants the UMMA to be one and all united. and i see ARABIC language as a tool god choose to make the world a better place. we should not be ignorant and disrespect our origins and insult our african brothers. the hatred that some people have for other clans is really not relevant here. if you can't come over that, please take your frustrations to other forumss where that have created tribal and clan warfare forumss. this is a diffferent forums. thanks. peace and love.
