Asalama Alaykum ALL!

Mullah,

As a Somali-Muslim man, and a POOR one, I don't think I'll ever be rich enough to buy A HOUSE, completely(OK, I know it's sad thought!)---when I wanna buy/build a house...I'll buy/build one in my homeland.

I'm on exile---how the heck am I gonna buy a house? LOL! I could NEVER ever ever feel "at home" anywhere other than Somalia. Mecca(Makkah,) is the BEST place to be in the sight of the Earth---and I would not feel, completely "at home" there. The ONLY place that I will ever settle, peacefuly...is my homeland. My thoughts, prayers, savings, and everything that one does to gain anything---is for the re-storation and building of MY HOMELAND...its future and its roots. I, body...mind and soul, BELONG there, period!

A heaven on Earth would be for me...if I found somalia, peace, ruled on the KORAN, and togetherness within its society---this is my hope and dream...NOT some phony house in a wicked-society! Sorry...don't mean to burst your bubble! :-))

Blessed BE!

Peace, Ahmad! *>.<*

Back on earth....
buying a home sure beats paying rent (after all you are paying someone elses mortgage.) It also is an investment- you benefit with appreciating assets.
The key, as you eluded to in your question , is good credit. Borrow small amouts, pay on time. After building a history, pay in full. Usually for mortgage loans, the loan officer focuses on the last 2 years. The next step is the loan. Getting "Pre-qualified" would help to determine how much home you can afford and will help you negotiate better when the time comes. You can either do this with the help of your realtor (go with someone recommended by a friend or family- or visit your bank)
There is however a BIG NEGATIVE associated with home buying- INTEREST payments.
Riba is haram. Make your decision accordingly.
God forgive us.
Good luck!

SiHam:

Yes; dearest but I need your input on the kind of house to settle on ...lol

Ahmed:

Brother, first as caraweelo pointed out, paying rent is just another way of enriching someone else, atleast when you pay mortgage, it goes towards your own property, sort of investment in yourself & family. While for rent, it doesn't accumulate value for you but the homeowner.

As for rebah, as pointed out by Caraweelo, there are now Mulim Investment groups & Bank in the US that I know of that exclusively cater to the Muslim communities across the states ...empowering them!!!!!!

However, my intention of this tread was to share ideas & experince to help each other...at least those of us how are in the market for it.

Caraweelo:

Thanks for the input, it's that kind of sharing I had in mind.

SiHam:

When are u coming back to you house...:-)
