Many of us want to help uphold our falling country; this issue is controversial and has been discussed numerous times. I think the problem with Somalia will not come to and end mainly because everyone is seeking the same exact thing "Leadership." If we don't trust each other how are we going to trust our Leaders? Another problem we have is well-known fact that we tend to do more talking then acting. The only way we can improve Somalia is invest in our nation we must not hesitate one pit. Lastly we have educate our children this does go to only parents it goes to the uncles, antes, older brother and sisters also anyone who is guardian who still remember and recall how our parents raised us back home the Islamic way. We must not let the kids get malt-in the cultures of the numerous countries that we are scattered in all over the world. So let's all plan on way's to help our country for only we can improve it; and remember my improving with in our self's is equivalent to improving our homeland.

walaahi for me it's hard to trust some somalis from other tribes. i have abandoned my tribe long time ago and i hate tribalism. but the people that i was friends with for a while have the utmost hatred for my tribe and these people whom i thought were educated were even worse than the nomads. then i met one of my dear uncles who was incarcerated by siayaad barre's regime becouse he opposed hi policies at the time. my uncle was a lawyer who took part the somali liberation movements in late 40's and early fifties. he told me he could have been if he wanted the first somali minister of justice but he forfiet it becouse he said at the time there were parties formed on the basis of caln affiliation. he went back to italy to further pursue his law studies. when he came back the whole somali parliament were populated as he put it by nomads whose main specialty were clan politics. then siyaad barre and his military regime took over and my uncle was not allowed to practice his law profession. the whole somali judiciary system was overhauled to make room for the so called scientific socialism. my uncle then told me he was kind leaning towards islam and he was a full fledged member of the islamic brootherhood. he had correspondence with the islamic moovements in egypt. at the time he was labeld wahhabi and he was imprisoned. in 1976 he was released and he was exiled to saudi arabia. my uncle tld me in all his experience he found somalis have no principles and ideologies other than tribalism. he told me a lot of people who were previledged at the time and were sent abroad to study at the expenses of the tax payers and the countries wealth have come back with the evils of clannism and nepotism. he told me not to beleive all the hype and hoopla sorrounding the idea that there are somali intelectuals. i found this very troublesome and i also have experienced this. i would not tell you my tribe but i found people who hate me becouse of my tribe. i find it hard to accept it but am leaning towards become active member of my tribe. i wanna defend them for now they have all kinds of enemies. i used to live in germany. canada, italy and am now in USA. everywhere i go people wanna know who i am and once they find it, all my thinking and ideas don't matter. i also found it hard to see how the somali people who fled from the civil war are more vengeful and aggressive. all they talk about is tribalism. i once saw this somali gentleman who claims to be a scholar and a professor of higher learning telling people that the peace and stabilty of somali depends on on one tribe nd he said if somalis unite to eliminate them , there will be peace and prosperity in somalia. i will not name any tribes and i will not give you hint about which tribe whom he was refering to.
and people were agreing with him. then i told him that is like preaching hate. i told him you are a bigoted war monger and i left where he seated. since that day, people have labelled me and call me am bitter person.i abhor such things and as matter of fact i am leaning to divorce somalis and take my nationality to other african countries like niger, mali and even sudan.
i am really serious and please don't try to change me. i gave up on somalia long time ago and i have a lot of facts about where the real ills of our society lies. but if ipoint fingers and talk about the truth even people who are closer to me will criticise me and maybe disown me.

No reason to give up on Somalia. It has huge potential and it is learning a hard lesson right now about the pitfalls of tribal politics (indeed of politics in general). The Somali people can be as generous and kind as they kind vicious and cruel. Somali political culture will change - and it needs every tolerant mind around to help it. Never say never.

I'm with you. I'm planning on moving to Jasira and I have a number of projects I want to develop there. I hope to meet you during my travels abowe.

Hi again!!!1

I doubt that we can do anything to achieve a prosperous and better somalia. the fact of the matter is that, somalia in miniture can be found in every large city in the world, from Sydney, Europe , toronto and Nairobi. And despite fleeing our country we are still wrangling and using tribalism as a weapon.

What we need is an evolution of the way we think. The need to abandon collective guilt and superiority/inferiority. As long as we still think that the somali solution is to have for instance a government we are bound to fail. Somalia needs no government because to run a government you need people to pay taxes and accountabilty and these two aspects are non-existant in the somali brain. Instead we are witnessing that the government is synonomeous with tribal hegomony.

let me not dither from the question: investment: inorder to invest, security is essential not to mention capital. is it secure to invest in somalia? I doubt whether there is sound security in somalia. As Mad-Mac mentioned I will very much like to invest in Gendershe/jesira.

So, my thesis is: somalis need to go back to their old life styles, camel herding, cattle/sheep, farm and harvest millet, sorgum and maize instead of so-called export crops (bananas, Papaya etc). Fishing and trading should be left to those who can. : non-inteference.

For those of us living in other places, let us buy summer cottages to have fun when it is cold in the western hemisphere.

an above all this: Let's stop being politicians, and polticize everything.

MAD_MAC: you are damn right, the somali people can be genereous and hard working but we have gone through 30 years of "learning" by observing which meant that we want to live an illusious life, big cars, good women, good houses etc without working for it.

i will have my take on the question of what can we do for our homeland. well first and foremost we have to enroll in higher learning institutions and educate ourselves. the chances of changing our society are slim , but the chances favour prepared minds. great topic. this is the key to succes in somalia. and never give up , cuz god is always mercifull. peace n love

First of all as I would like to thank each of you for your opinions, I hold them most high regard. By asking the right questions we will eventual obtain usefully answers. Becoming an immigrants I am sure was a challenge to most of us including me, so let’s not forget our Native Land it’s development waits only for us.
“””””””””””””If our descent can see us in our pale condition they would wail, our ancestries where strong, efficient, mindful leaders what ever happen to us.

FreeMan
Brother you are a life example of what we must accomplish as somalians. We need to dissent Qabillism, it’s what brought us trembling down to the floor, it’s what labeled us wicked and failures est. So by eliminating Qabillism success will come

Mo
Thank you so much for your statement, it’s been deep and emotional. Your uncle like man was a victim of politic propaganda which came to an end I hold nothing against our late president may he rest in peace, now it’s between him and god, it’s something that awaits for us all. Brother don’t let history and curl people get the best for you, gain experience and knowledge if u do that you’re the winner but if you get mad and let anger overcome your feelings they are the successors. Make sure your hart is clean of hate judge people by their characters and remember the best of people aren’t always among your own tribe. Mo you of all people should know Somali unity is our goal that does don’t seclude any particular tribe it’s all of us together, but if one brother decides he wants no part of it and another sister decides she will have nothing to do with Somalia and you abandon Somalia who is left. We make a lighter fist together remember that.

Mad Mac
I would like to wish you the best to Jasira, Hopefully we will encounter each other around Somalia for I will be traveling in the coming years to various neighboring countries of Somalia.

Mr.Shifta
No doubt that I agree with you on one point-a government without taxpayers will never prospers and Somalia will not benefit from it. But lets not leave it at the, this is where people like you, me and those who have the chance to have a education and work come in; to star businesses and contributions to help develop Somalia. Such actions will would a booster income will flow and unemployment will decrease leading to a stable economy. “At the stage there will be no stopping us”
Your thesis is insight and rather a puzzling one; the whole world is striving forward, so why send us back to old style. If we did do it it’s and easy and enjoying life style, most of us don’t see it that way.

Thank you Zamlo for your comments and I accept the certificate with honor, but you deserve it more than I, we need more Somali female to attract us to the right direction. I support your theory of how Somalia should not be look at as east and west or in other words the division of Puntland, Somaliland, hiiraan, jubaland and even more I can’t even think of this is not good, Somali is one. One flag, one race, one religion, one Nation. One love.

Cilmi:
I have taken a somewhat pragmatic view on the somali situation. A view built on my own observation of somalis through out the world. I disagree when you state that "the whole world is moving forward". On the contrary I believe that the old way of life was better for the somalis. At least our grand-parents were not leading a life built on illusions, cars, villas etc. they were hardworking individuals who had norms and values. greed was a word which we somalis become acquinted with when we came to towns .

You mentioned something about starting business and help our country on its feet. I would very much want to help , but I doubt whether this will help. you see my dear brother in my thesis I forgot to mention the two types of somalis in this so-called world:

1: The blind somali with lies as a corporate idea: this kind of somali is everywhere in Somalia, Europe, asia and north america. he thrives on telling lies, about how good somalia is, its resources, its unity, its homogenity in religion, culture language etc. He does not value education, he thinks that he has loyalty in his tribe...a loyalty built on myths on his heritage. he listens to every news source. He hates words such as justice, education, hardworking etc.

OK: this somali is the one who has made us refugees, the one who succeeded in giving us a bad reputation....and a rough non-scientific estimate will put these kind of somalis at around 97%

2: The somali who despite this hardships wants to make a difference. I can detect that somali in you. But as long as this somali is a minority then we are bound to fail.

Anyway: I hate discussing a topic in a language which I don't have perfection in....and because of somali nr.1 I am such a person.

Look around somalinet forums and you will be able to map somalia in those two categories.

So, i think, instead of advocating a somalia with a life style it cannot afford, let us instead try to look back and learn from our ancestors. i believe camel herding and farming are also life styles and a much demanded one.

thanks
