Did you guys hear about this? A hollywood movie is coming out this November about the "supposed" events that occured during the Somali war between American soldiers and Somalis. (Of course, it's told from the perspective of the American soldiers ... so I bet it will most likely glorify the American soldiers and will end with the red-white and blue flag waving proudly)

I copied and pasted this from the net:

BLACK HAWK DOWN

Genre: Action/Drama.

Studio: Revolution Studios.
Production Company: Bruckheimer Films.

Project Phase: In Development.

Who's In It: Josh Hartnett; Tom Sizemore; Eric Bana; Ben Foster; Ron Eldard; Jeremy Piven; William Fichtner; Orlando Bloom; Woody Harrelson; Sam Shepard; Ewan McGregor.

Who's Making It: Ridley Scott (Director); Jerry Bruckheimer (Producer); Mark Bowden, Ken Nolan (Screenwriters);
Branco Lustig, Chad Oman, Mike Stenson, Simon West (Executive Producers);

Based on the novel Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern War by Mark Bowden.
Black Hawk Down - about the 1993 Mogadishu battle with Delta Force and the U.S. Army Rangers. During the fierce fight 18 US Rangers and several hundred Somali soldiers were killed. Two medals of honor were awarded (pothumously) to Rangers Schugart and Gordon who rappelled into the middle of a firefight in an attempt to rescue a downed pilot.
Both soldiers died, but the pilot, Michael Durant, lived.

Premise: A group of one hundred American soldiers on a seemingly routine humanitarian mission in Somalia find themselves
outnumbered and outgunned by Somali soldiers.
Based on a true story.

Release Date: November 2, 2001.

Here's a detailed account of the apparent
real events of the true Black Hawk Down story:

"The real premise of this story is that the Rangers went on a mission to seize a Somali Warlord, Ah-Didi(?). For several weeks leading up to this debacle the General on the ground in command, Gen. Garrison, had not had his men deviate from a scripted playbook. The Somalis watched and learned."

"Poor intelligence led our troops to think that the Somali rebels weren't sophisticated enough to shoot down helicopters. Low and behold, RPG's began appearing on roof-tops with rocket propelled grenades. One chopper was quickly dispatched and then another. Both crashed blocks apart from where the Ranger assault was targeted."

"Because our unit was denied armor, we could not launch a rescue mission quickly. The UN forces were fearful of their own troops getting ambushed (happened in the previous week that over a dozen Pakistani troops were killed)."

"So the mission became one of survival for those Americans left on there own out in the streets of Mogadishu....18 dead, somewhere over 50 wounded. The ironic part: our government had initiated talks with this Warlord through Jimmy Carter. However, the State Department didn't communicate this to our troops. The mission was supposed to be scrubbed."

Just curious, if they were looking for extras (which they must, who's gonna play the Somalis?) would you guys play the part. I always marveled about those Arab and Russian people who play terrorists in movies, are they sell-outs? 'cause they're just propagating the typical stereotype made of them by the media.

I hope anyone that gets the chance takes advantage of becoming a start. Might even produce spin offs and lead a lot of young people to think twice about becoming a gangsta when they growup... or even worse a somalinet.com forums presenter... :)
