Since the civil war started I have been leaving in USA and I have met so many diffrent people around the world. Somalis are the best when it comes to their relatives and they are the bottom when it comes as a Nation. I have so many Somalis friends and I never seen discussing about the future of our country. Are we really sensative or are we afraid of being attached to a politician? The point I want to make is Somalia needs fresh minds please start to think your country as you are thinking your relatives. In my point of view, we, somalis, think we can't live with out a close relative but we think we can live without a Nation. If that is the case we are in terrible shape. My dear brothers and sisters lets us revive our state of Union because without it we won't be strong.

Please contribute what do you think if you agree or not and make you point. If you really wantto have an intelligent discussion please contact me at "abdi118@hotmail.com" every one is welcome.

Mr. Brother Abdullahi!
I agree with you on the generalization you made in regards to our people's general attitude towards nation rebuilding. However, just like all generalizations go, this one is not an exception and it is wrong. There are a lot of somalis who would give anything to gain what they lost to ignorance if only they knew how. Some have tried uphill individual battle to make a difference and retired to hopelessness when they lost the battle.
The general attitude amongst the sincere individuals within our communities are, I hope I am wrong on this one, that there is nothing they could do that will result significant change in our nation's social, economic, and political situations so waste time on battle you can't win. Just the other weekend while I and a former classmate of mind were reminiscing in a barbar, not far from our beloved Dixon, the old days and the current realities of our people, a man who appeared to be an educated somali entity gave us a brotherly advice through intrusion. The advice went like this "Waad ba yar yar tihiine, maxaad politics oga hadlaysaan (Nothern style dialog)"..."Waxaan idinkula talin lahaa inaad naftiina meel kasoo saartaan arimahaana u dhaaftaan Odayaashii meeshan keenay". I didn't know how to respond this brother. Obviously this brother saw us two young men who were strugling with the daily strugles of live in the west, who needed his wisdom so we don't waste our valuable time on these nonsense issues. Well, my brother was wrong. The friend that I was conversing with while young was a political scientist, B.A. in Political Science, who is involved the political issues of our land, or at least he think he is. Not to mention, he also currently persuing a degree in Business. I,on the hand, am under achiever. I only hold a BSc and currently persuing my MSc. The conversation this brother overheard was a account my friend, who frequently visits the homeland, was relaying to me. I politely informed this brother our credentials and how the issues at hand were off our atmost concern. The brother insisted that we put this wasteful issue in our back burner and continue to make something off oursleves. Having realized the old saying of "you can teach an old dog new tricks". My friend and I took the brothers advice, or so we led him believe. So my dear brothers and sisters, it is not that we don't love our nation or anything. We either are suferring form self defeat or self destructing attitude like that of my brother at barbar. I believe things will change, but without our involvement the change comes might not be the one we would like. So let the discussion continue and perhaps something will assemble out of this. Sorry about the essay.

That is my two cents!
