A lot of somalian youth are woried too much about matching PPLE that have different calture and different relegion,,, and never think back of where they came from and how things were different from her.
Some of the young somalian pple are taking care of the situation wisely and remembering all the time that they are from far away from were we are today and also knowing better the reason they are her today is not to jump on everything that they see in the bicture of the screen and etc.
Iam asking for interesting opinions not stupidity.
so if u have good topic to share, please don"t hesitate.................

asalama alaykum muslims,

jiijo,

actually, jiijo -- those somalis who try to be like the west, always end up being confused. the west has nothing to offer -- it is reletively young and FEDERATED...with all different cultures/morals/religions/etc etc etc. somalia, where 99% of the people generally have similar morals, is not the west. our culture is influenced by arabic culture...in later years. however, there is a true root of somali culture -- which somalis, no matter how far gone they seem, all share -- and that is SOMALISM.

i have met somalis who never been to somalia -- or never had exposure of our culture...but are SOMALIS. hahahaha! it is hard to believe...but it is true. i think we should count our blessings and i think we somalis should believe in our people and their dedication to the land of somalia! after all, we think -- we believe -- we experience it. thus, is it not better to have positive thoughts about us...so that we can experience positive us????

peace - ahmad!

ahmed : No offence bro, but what you wrote here does not make any sense,,

>>i have met somalis who never been to somalia -- or never had exposure of our culture...but are SOMALIS. hahahaha<<<

what do you mean by they "never had exposure to our culture" ?????

Do you mean that Somalis who were born outside Somalia are not Somalis ???

Let me give you the chance to clarify that point before I give you my views on that issue.

And that in a nutshell is why most Somalis are notoriously poor assimlilators. The same problem the Turks have in Germany. If you live in a country you have to adopt some of the basic social mores of that place or you will be looked upon as a social outcast. That, of course, doesn't mean you have to change your moral beliefs, but it does mean that you should try and blend with the locals wherever possible. Example - dress. I wouldn't go walking around the streets of DC wearing a mawis. It would just look ridiculous. Now in Hamer it looks perfectly OK. You have to apply a little common sense here.
I have lived in Somalia, Haiti, Saudi and Germany (a long time in Germany) and everywhere I go I try to assimilate as much as possible. OK in Saudi Arabia it was impoassible - I might as well have been on a different planet. But everywhere else.

asalama alaykum muslims,

sam,

>>i have met somalis who never been to somalia -- or never had exposure of our culture...but

i mean, somalis -- whose parents are somalis...but are WESTERNIZED and have no somali tradition whatsoever. who, themselves are born in the west. thus, the children never have the exposure to our culture. their parents live -- outside suburbs wehre you will never find a somali...unless he's just driving by it. however, beyond all that, i know somalis WHO are still somalis -- deep down...still our own people in every way.

peace - ahmad

Mad Mac:

>>If you live in a country you have to adopt some of the basic social mores of that place or you will be looked upon as a social outcast<<<<

The point you are trying to make here just shows how ignorant you can get.

When the White people came to North America did they blend with the Native Indians ?

When the White man went to settle in Africa did he blend with the Africans. ?????????

The White Man did Not Assimilate with the locals,,,,He killed them, He stole their land and put the locals in a Native Reserve.

They did not bother to learn the local languages they forced the Africans to learn English, Italian, French or whatever...

Apartheid was the policy in Africa,,

Segregation was the Law In United States.

And you dare call other people poor Assimilators !!!!

Boy,, you must have a very poor memory, or is it just plain White Hypocracy ?

When white people did those things did you like it? I can tell from your write up you think it's bullshit. Now I didn't say white people were good assimilators - although I am. I said Somalis were poor assimilators. Saying Somalis are poor assimilators does not infer that white people are good assimilators. You comment shows just how poor your logic train is. Also, my Grandmother is American Indian - I ain't all white. I am not a hypocrite, although frankly I don't give a •••• what you think about me.

You think his views are very strong? Examine what he is saying carefully. When you scrape away the veneer, he is saying that all white people suck - and he says that while he lives off of their largesse. Don't you think that's a little hypocritical? Don't you think the world has had enough of the good guy / bad guy syndrome? Maybe we should judge each other as individuals a little more and as groups a little less? While Somalis have a difficult time assimilating (Somalis and Europeans are culturally a long way apart) that doesn't mean I''m saying there's something wrong with them or that they're evil or we should send them all back home or whatever. Why do you and Raage hace a difficult time discussing a problem without it becoming a name calling match?

assalamu alaikum warahmah,

I've gotta agree with mad mac (as much as I hate to admit it :) ) when he said that you've gotta integrate and not fully assimilate...you've gotta keep your religion believes, and cultural values at the same time you've gotta also adapt to the society you're living in's ways...you can't make it if you tell yourself, you're not gonna adapt to this country's ways...you've gotta learn the law and I am emphasizing this because many somali's or emmigrants for this matter are not aware of their rights and thus end up being discriminated against...whether it's for religion, ethnicity or racial reasons...you've gotta know your rights as an employee and overall your rights as a human being...

All I'm saying is that We can't expect to be here and live as if though we were in somalia...take what's beneficial to you and leave what's harmful to you or what's not useful to you

so now you are challenging the caw or cow whatever... hmmm. well, i do not know what to say... man...the road to hell by the dude who created nomadnet huh? well, i did not read it, but i had a chance to scan some chapters of it and also read its reviews and it focused on mishandling and looting of the aid in somalia, so what? bad people are among in every society..for instance, your own people treated humans like •••• so what!! times had changed as time will change in somalia

Recommend you read the book. Very interesting account of how aid contributions led to the destruction of Somali society. But you got to read it through. There are some poignant lessons there for the future.

yeah yeah .......yeah!!! very interesting account of how aid contributions led to ........." don't you think there are overlooked elements here....what actually led somalia to destruction......before the the aid....what in fact caused the aid in first place.......and why would somalia kept getting aid throughout the years? look for such answers and i might be more sendeful here...i also agree some of how micheal laid his thesis and concluded......by the way, i scanned the book but it's not like it's the damn "DEFINITVE SOMALI POLITICS AND CAUSES OF THE CIVIL WAR"............is there such thing....if you ever come across, chech out my name THE WRITER FORMERLY KNOWN AS ANALYZER>>>>> peace.....

All I said is read the book, the author has an interesting thesis including what caused the aid to start and continue. It's just an interesting thesis certainly not all-encompasing. His book is more about aid and the problems associated with it than it is about Somalia. Chill dude.
