Look at this scenario;
“ The members of parliament and a president have been chosen by people who have been hand picked by the Djibouti government. The parliament which is the law making body and which is not accountable to the Somali people as it is not chosen by the Somali people makes its laws and decisions to what powers it can give itself, what duration it can exist as it has the power it can to do whatever it likes and no one can challenge it. The President who is also not accountable to anyone uses any powers he has to do what he wants. Of course not forgetting that the parliament and the president have their sit in the more secure offices in one of the Djibouti flashy hotels. They receive their guests mostly made of foreign donors such as the UN, World Bank and the rest. Since they can not visit somalia as they may need visas to enter such places as Bosaso, Hargeysa etc all they do is make phone calls to people in Somalia and give out press conferences saying how much work they have done in rebuilding Somalia from tutters/statelessness/wilderness/fox of den to a recognised state/a prosperous nation/a paradise.”
They question still remains do the people of Somalia have the rights to make decisions affecting them? |
