     | Friday, August 04, 2000 - 09:00 pm Some of you who took history 101(eedoor crashing)class, the prerequisite of this class 202, may expect, as I ‘ve promised,we will be starting the new thread under the history Somalis living in the North. However, It is my sad duty to announce that the course is cancelled due to misunderstanding from Somalinet management part. They claimed that we are violating the policy of the site by teaching/learning the origin of this community.We protested any wrong doing and was led to believe the management was bribed by that community. In fact there was strong rumors that the webmaster can’t stand the people of his wife being humiliated and their ass kicked by some other gangs since the webmaster is married to eedoor woman. Nevertheless we will be revisiting eedoors and their history from time to time. However the class history 202 is about SOMALI ORING and we will be mainly discussing only that since many of us are drowning into abyss of identity crises. And some of us here in diaspora developed some kind of Arab-hating attitude while some others developed Niger loving one. For the last 6 years I ‘ve been hearing some conflicting opinions about Somali origin. I hear people asking all the following questions like: Are we from Arabia? from Abyssinia? From Egyptian Pharaohs? Are we race of our own—just Somalis? Or just another blacks(down right Nigers?) So what you guys think?.Before I give my opinion, Let me hear yours. amadeou

Back to Somali Origin,I personally didn't read the bible nor was i intend to look things from European prespectives. But the fact that you ruled out that we are neither Arabs nor Nigroes forced me to agree with you 100% and it also forced me to narrow our discussion to focus on Cushites living in Africa. Many times Somalis and many people who didn't tour into Africa think that it is only we and Ethopians that is different featurely from our brothers--Nigro race. But the truth is there are many people from many countries that are like us--namely Cushites. I would like to take you a tour into africa from East Africa to subsahara countries and point out our cousins. There is a line that divides Arabs, Nigro race and Cushites--Arabs being at North, Cushites middle and nigroes at South. If you go from somalia through southren Ethopia, middle of Sudan, Chad, Muritania and mali, you will be suprised how much similarities exist between those people living that area and somalis. One time, before i discovered this line, i was reading a newspaper called "African Events" and i was puzzled after my eyes caught one picture in that newspaper. The picture was Taureg Rebels from Mali. In the picture, i saw two small house--"aqal Hoori/Somali", a small girl sitting one of the houses crying , and two men armed standing the side of the one of the houses. And believe me, it was like i am seeing nothing else but somalis in somewhere in "baadiya" somalia!. The two small houses were typically the ones you will find the rural side of the Middle and North regions of somalia. The small girl was wearing small "diric" and she had a "dhoor"--She was shaved except the front part. The two men were armed with two guns and masked with two bed-sheets "go" like "Shufto". By just looking that picture, i swear i didn't need more evidences to prove me Taureg of Mali somehow relate to Somalis.It is like old cliche of "one picture worthes two million words". What about Chad?. It is well known facts that the former president of Chad Husein Habre claimed tht he is Garre-- an east-African tribe living in somalia, Ethopia and Kenya.And Cadians are like somalis featurewise. And You will see the Cushite Muritians and you will swear that they are just another Somalis. All those people i mentioned are very similar to Somalis.Their way of life and what they wear are very close to somalis. Only difference being the languages. They are mostly Camel herders and are people who have sense of pride like somalis. Tauregs and Muritians are slave owners like somalis as you pointed out. One may argue that why we didn't see or hear that issue before. Or if that is true, then why Nigro race or Bantu dominate of being African or being Blacks?. I mean,we all know when one thinks being an African what usually coming to mind is only nigro race.why is that? Well, first Cushites are minorities comapred to Bantus. And one thing that always shaped and defined being African or black is slavery. There aren't slave Cushites exported to North America.That is why you hardly see anyone that looks like somalis in North America or inEurope. So yes we are black Africans who are Eastren Cushitics. We neither Arabs Nor Nigroes.Being African blacks doesn't mean we shouldn't be necessarily look like nigroes.But the idea of hatting or loving nigro race is another topic which needed to be discussed. Somaliland has not been recognised because the U.N charter regarding Africa states that no new nation can be founded on the sole basis of tribalism, clanism or ethnicity. 2.35% of the population reject the valadity of the hergaisa government because it based solely on the empowerment of Isaqqs at the expense of minority clans. 3. Egal wont set a foot in Las Anod because he knows his government has no authority there and his safety is not assured. 4. I would be a hypocrite if I could answer this one so i'll leave it to our Somaliland readers. Just to remind you my hometown of Las Anod has boomed and prospered thanks to the help of both the Isaqq and Darood residents. The people who live there are brothers and they dont kill and humiliate each other, instead the help and support one another. See what our nation could do when we cooperate instead of obliterate. You say that your Las Anod town is flourshing, I bet its , but then we all know the economic growth is all over and even more so in Hargeisa and Burco I will argue becuase; after the destruction done to these towns under the Barre regime, it took guts and hard work to get us back on our feet, and you know what we did it with out no outside help. In regard to the UN charter on seperation well it never stopped South and Norh Korea seperating on ethinic and believes basis. If you need moe evidane, devolution that is about to take place in Great Britain, between the English, Welsh and Scottish is again based on ethinic devision and conflicts. Moreover, we have moved beyond war and choas where the south remains in turmoil. Well we all know that arabs used to burry their daugters before islam. This woman caging thing origintes arab culture more than it orignates islam. Go indonesia and you will see women leading the prayer. And go somalia you will see woman traveling 1000 miles alone. In saudi is not allowed to drive. Please note we are blacks by color but not by culture. i mean, we blacks and other blacks are our brothers. we belong to same categories-blacks. there is no way we feel superior over them in any form other than culture. Now comes the lecture. we asked "Do all somalis bloodly related?". I guess the answer of this question is obviously "no". There are Somalis who are featurely and laguagely differently from other somalis. 1-there are arab somalis-mainly from Yemen and Oman. they speak arabic and somali . they live all southren part of somalia; mogadishu, kismayo, marka, baydhaba and all south towns. 2-there are persian somalis--shanshi. I don't if they speak persian but they speak somali. they are not as many as yemens. 3-sheekhaal gendershe. 4- reer barava. they live in barawe.they speak a language very close to Kiswahili. Their origin is known to me. 5-Bagadi and Geledi. Those two communities live mogaishu and lower shabelle region-mainly afgoye and its close area. There are enough eveidences that suggests that those people are islamized jewish community. Only somali is the language they speak. 5- Ashraaf. All that above categoriess are light skined people and can be said is semitics. Also there bantu somalis. Two of these community are known when they came to somalia and where they came from. 1-Mushungulis live in lower shabele and uppers shabele. European clonies brought them from Tansania in late 19 century. They speak different language and are mainly farmers. Some of them are not even muslims. they are pagans. 2- in bosaso area there are some bantus from tansania. Those people are called "xoryeel" and they were slaves of king Osman "boqor cusman". Cambar, the great soccer player in somali national league is one of them. Apart from that i don't know when and where the other bantus came to somalia. Now, we are done those who are different from other somalis featurely. we will go those who looke like somalis featurely but have different languages. 1-Gare. it is east african tribe who has its own languages and distint culture. they live somalia, kenya , Ethopia and even Chad. 2-Jiida. You see them and you think Rahanweyn or just Digil and Mirifle but you will realize they have different language close to Oromia language. These two above community live in lower shabele and Gare also lives some part of Gedo. 3-Dabarre. this community lives in Diinsoor. they are small in number but they have their own language. All those above mentioned somalis are somalis who either featurely and languagely different form the rest of somalis. The first group are somalized but second group are natives. | | Wednesday, August 23, 2000 - 08:39 pm Dear People of Somalia: It has recently come to my attention that the people of the self-proclaimed republic of Somaliland have decided to indefinetly separate from their brethren in the south on the sole basis of past atrocities commited by the previous regime and to a lesser extend the current accomplishments of their make-shift state. On a more positive note the people of Puntland claim to be supporting Somali confederation but at the same time they do not support the Somali peace initiative in Carta which was ofcoarse ignited by president Guelleh of Djibouti on the grounds that president Guelleh has violated his mandate by personally interferring with Somali affairs. It seems quite odd and ironic to me that the people who are most to blame for the disintergeration of our nation (Isaqq and Majeertane) are the same hooligans who are today doing everything in their power to destroy and sabotage Somali unity. Despite all their economic and political accomplishments I would like to remind the Isaqq and Majeertane people that they owe it to the Somali people not to turn their backs on reconciliation. If it were not for SSDF and SNM attacks on the central government we would not be in the state of anarchy that we are today. I am glad that our brothers in Puntland claim that they are working for the best interests of all Somali people but actions speak louder then words. I would also like to remind the people of these two regions despite all the horrors they suffered in the hands of Siad a much more drastic and prolonged horror was suffered by the Darood inhabitants of Muqdisho and later by the Hawiya inhabitants who till this day have not found peace and are still at war with one another. The Marehan who were the masterminds of selfishness and somali disillusionment have also suffered greatly by both human and natural factors such as mass starvation and indiscriminate killing on the sole basis of clan membership. So brothers and sisters we all know that there is absolutely no clan with a clean moral conscience because everyone is to blame for the destruction of our nation. True some more then others but the bottom-line is its time for a change we could not continue living on like this. We have been imbarrasing and humiliating ourselves on the international stage for long enough and it deeply pains my heart to see two of the most economically prosperous and politically stable clans in Somalia (Isaqq and Majeertane) exclude themselves from national unity. We need all of our great people to make this thing work and it would be disasterous for all parties concerned if one of the nemerous clans do not come under the fold of national unity. It is in the best interest of all Somali people that we have a strong and united nation and it is only the war-mongers and aging worlords who stand in the way of peace because all dignified and peace-loving somali's could clearly see that reconciliation and national confederation is our only viable option. But if the new government is reognized as the legitimate government of Somalia and Somaliland does not get recognition sooner or later it will be in their own best interests to join the confederacy or they will have a government representing them in international affairs and have no influence over this government. I'm not against Somaliland as an interim solution but in the long run it has no basis for seperate statehood. Somalis are one ethnic group and in the current global geopolitical system the world will not recognize a split. If Somaliland does not get on board they will be left out in the cold.

Already southern businessmen and professionals are hard at work in Hargeysa helping in the rebuilding of that pleasant city's commerce and infrastructure. Southern skilled tradesmen have migrated to the same city and are being richly compensated for their talents as they help build up cities in the north. They get security, both physical and financial in exchange for bringing their talents and investment. A symbiotic relationship all round. My father toured these areas extensively and he said all people are doing is getting on with their jobs instead of this tribal bull-crap you guys are wasting your time on. Also, your fomula for the eventual restoration of a central Somali government is absolutely correct. Furthermore, you are correct that having a strong central government is overated. In fact, as I have said all along here I think Somalia needs a weak central government and strong regional governments. The best way to rehabilitate Somalia is to get each region to developed social infrstructures that provide stability which in turn ensourage economic growth like we are seeing in the north. Do you know I can now get a visa and travel there with a very low probability of getting shot or anything. Really Concerned Somali I think you overstate your case against Egal. He's a politician of the first order, having long been politically inclined. This neccessarily makes him a conniver, like all politicians everywhere on the planet. But he has led a revival of sorts in the North which has benefited the region greatly. Youv'e got to give the man his due. Liquor is the great equalizer amongst all nationalities. I sat next to some pissed off lady who juuuust missed being on the Australian Kayak team, so she said. I figured if they liked the Three Stooges I would once and for all settle the gender question because I have yet to find a woman who liked the Stooges. | | Monday, September 25, 2000 - 04:53 am Greetings Fellow Lasanod Bizarros: I actually got in to see an Olympic event. Women's gymnastics was a tough ticket but I managed to purchase one from a scalper. The first thing you notice at one of these live events is that the "women" look more like tiny little girls. It is really something to see them in action. But I have to tell you, I cringed every time one of the women crashed their crotches on the balance beam. It is absolutely mystifying to me that they do not injure themselves. I realize that men have some extra baggage hanging around. Heck, men getting hit in the crotch with a ping pong ball is painful, let alone crashing down upon a piece of wood four inches wide. All in all, the quality of the gymnastics was not that great. On television you only see the highlights but in person, you get to see some of the less qualified competitors. More women fell, missed routines and in general scored poorly than any meet I had ever seen via television. Also I have never seen so much glitter glued on women since I went to the topless revue in Vegas. I have no idea what that was about. I tried to get an interview with Team USA. I couldn't even get near them. They treated their fellow American as if I had typhoid. I did not take it ersonally. It was not like they thought that I would ask them why they had no breasts. In fact that is another mystery. Why don't female gymnastics participants have breasts? For those of you who have faithfully read Bizarre News, you know how important this attribute is to me. That is probably why I gravitated to large, overweight lifters. They had breasts. Well, by the time you read this it will be tomorrow. I think I have finally got the hang of the time shift. The other day, I saw this woman trying to get out of a tight parking space. She'd bump the car in front, then back-up and strike the car behind her. This went on about 2 minutes. I walked over to see if I could somehow help. My offer was declined though. She said, "Why have bumpers if you're not going to use them once in a while?" #2 Just about all my life I belonged to the Reformed Lutheran Church. When I married my wife, I converted to her church. In order to do so, I had to attend classes. At the first session, the minister conducting the class said, "What must we do before we can expect forgiveness from God?" I replied, perhaps too quickly... "Sin?"

| | Thursday, September 28, 2000 - 03:55 am Greetings Fellow Bizarros: Well, I promised the wife that I would stay away from the Sydney brothel scene, but I broke down after seeing an ad for an "Olympic Special." I did not partake in the carnal pleasures, but simply had to find out how the legal houses of ill repute were making out during this maddening time while visiting Sydney. I was curious, as any good reporter would be, about their Olympic marketing push. One brothel had three specials: "Sprints," "Relays" and finally "Marathons." So with notepad in hand (it always helps to at least "look" like a reporter) I visited that brothel. If you were wondering, "Sprints" were for a quick thirty-minute romp with a lady of your choice; "Relays" sounded extremely interesting as a total of four different women would service a patron one after the other. I was told that each "leg" of the relay focused on a different pleasure. Finally, the "Marathon" was for an ex-tended four hour stint with a single woman. But the extent of my inquiries were not simply relegated to understanding the clever marketing approach. We have readers from all over the world. Half of you are women, and you will be glad to know that the brothel also had a computer with photos of male studs from which ladies could choose. This was by appointment only, unlike the drop-in traffic off the street for men. I never did see any ladies patronizing the brothel though. The woman who ran the place, "Violet", was matronly. She seemed more like a den mother than a lady pedaling sin. I interviewed her about which culture made the place the most money. She told me that hands down, Japanese men made the most money for the house. The reason? It seems (according to "Violet" that most Japanese men finish quicker than other ethnic groups. This means that there is more customer turn-over per worker. "Violet" sounded like a CPA. In case you were wondering what ethnic group had the least "turnover", the answer was Australia's own Aborigines. I never found out why. I asked Violet how they were handling the extra business due to the huge influx of visitors. They had to import prosti-tutes from all over to accommodate the rush. They sent six prostitutes outside the country to recruit. They were given bonuses for every recruit brought into the country. The thing that struck me about this was how business-like the whole enterprise was. You had the feeling that McDonalds or SONY faced the same challenges as Violet. | | Saturday, September 30, 2000 - 11:11 am Greetings Fellow Bizarros: I needed to take a break from this Olympic stuff. What follows is an unusual experience with an Aboriginal guide. I met "Johnny" while eating at a little cafe called Clyde's. He came up to me and introduced himself. I guess I looked like a tourist. After inviting him to join me for lunch (and put it on the old expense account) he proceeded to tell me about Aboriginal culture. It seems that the early "settlers" in Australia were every bit as brutal as the original settlers in the colonies. The native people were slaughtered in similar fashion as native Americans were in the US. He then invited me on a trip to the Outback. Folks, a lot of my adventures center on finding more urban diversions. But I decided to take him up on it. For $150 Australian, he would take me into the Outback for a night and "live like an Aborigine." Let me tell you this... BIG MISTAKE! First thing, the Outback is a mixture of desert, rock and the moon. How anything lives in that environment is a mystery to a guy like me who can't get a tomato plant to grow with a bag of fertilizer. We got about 50 miles outside of Sydney and saw kangaroos all over the place. In the states, we think of them as "cute", but they are really nothing more than large rodents. Johnny got out of the jeep and took a wooden boomerang from the back seat and winged it at a "Roo". At first I was inclined to laugh at his efforts but I was soon amazed when he actually got one in the head. He said we now had dinner lined up. Eating kangaroo cooked on an open fire made me puke my guts out. I got so sick we couldn't finish the Aboriginal cultural exchange outing. While I am at it, Australian food pretty much sucks in general. If it is possible, they make the English seem like gourmet cooks. While I am on this food kick, have you ever tried Australia's gift to food culture; Vegemite? This actually looks good. It is a spread that looks like peanut butter or chocolate. You spread it on a scone. It tastes like...dare I say it... SHITT! While I have never actually tasted crap, I have stepped in it enough times to at least recognize its characteristics. I am getting homesick for the USA. I think seeing the water go down the drain backwards is having some kind of metaphysical effect on me. Bizarrely, LAASCAANOODI
