     | Wednesday, September 06, 2000 - 02:38 am The Somalis are fielding a team of six athletes at this years games in Sydney. I really hope at least one of them medals. Additionally, there is an ethnic Somali representing the United States for the 10,000 meter. Let's hope this kid - who really looks like a future talent, he just started running five years ago and just started this event last year - makes good. If anyone hears any news on how the Somalis are doing, or if any ethnic Somalis are representing another country at the games, please post it here. GO SOMALIA!!!!

| | Wednesday, September 06, 2000 - 08:54 am Mac This definitely good news, after all this business of new Government being formed in Somalia, I am sad we have to recycle failed Murderers,War criminals,Dictators, and same people who are responsible or caused our ills, What makes me sadder, is all the people who suffered under this bunch of bloody War criminals are Eager to accept because they believe somehow it may help or advance their tribe's or clan's Ambition, But I believe anything that starts with injustice will end Failure. I know my people, they are not good at reasoning just very emotive. Our Olympic Team are already here with us, We will support them through the Games, then take them out if they win medal or not for fun.

As for the baseless charge that I never say anything positive about Somalis, well go through the threads again. Just because I dog guys out who postulate ridiculous nonsense like Somalis are the greatest race, etc. doesn't mean I don't like Somalis. Why else would I be here. You look back at some recent threads and I've said Somalis have a keen sense of business acumen, have wonderful cuisine, are engaging and interesting, have beautiful women (this usually leads to some sort of anti-gaal distribe) and around Hamer a great climate. But some of you guys will take the slightest critique, even something obvious like Somalia is a political basket case, and attack me like I said all Somalis are loosers and their women are a bunch of whores. Then a discussion gets side tracked. Bottom line. I love Somalia, think its a cool place, have genuine symmpathy for those who have been caught up in the war (esspecially the little kids who certainly had nothing to say about it) and want to see a complete recovery.

But you have to understand the fact of you being an american critic on somali affairs gives us tad of uneaseness but dont let that bather u, we kinda enjoy defending somalia from anybody even one of us and sometimes for no reason at all. I have read many of your messages and agree with u being occused of unfounded allegations, but u know what u are not alone so take it like a somali now that u are one of us.

The fact that a war-torn country can produce any sportsmen and women is itself amazing. We have to start believing in each other. Somalis can do anything, since the civil war somalis have immegrated to all over the world and have became top scientist, top business-men & women top doctors, we have everything we need except genuine believe!!.. peace & Love to all my brothers & sisters around the world.

| | Sunday, September 17, 2000 - 02:16 am Ahmed Qatal I was definately involved in major operations in which Somalis were killed - so I guess that would be a yes even if I did not pull the trigger myself. I only fired my weapon once and I doubt that I hit anything - it was just suppressive fire. Also, we weren't fighting just any Somalis, we were fighting the SNA. In many places we were greeted VERY warmly. Yes, all of my Somali friends are very Somali and Muslim (some more Muslim than others). Yes, I am aware than non-Muslim men can not marry none Muslim women. I am also aware that some Somali women do it anyway (I know two mixed couples here in Germany and a few more in the US). In the event. I already have a good women and don't need another. No, I do not consider your post to be an anti-gaal diatribe and you are correct I meant diatribe (the s and the a are right next to each other on the keyboard - it was a typo).

For Somalia to field a team and compete at all, that is a victory. For the world to see Somali men and women take the field with other nations, that is a victory. | | Tuesday, September 26, 2000 - 02:13 am Well, it's a lucky thing I ain't counting on you guys to keep me informed. Abdihakim Abdirahman, a Somali American, finsihed 10th in the 10,000 meters. Watch this kid cause he has a bright future. He just started the 10,000 meters two years ago and has only been running competetively about four years. He finished with a solid time of 27:46.17 - a career best. He obviously gave 100%. The worlds greatest 10,000 meter runner EVER, Halie Gebressalasie, finished less than 30 seconds ahead of the kid. He's going to be a star in track and field some day.
