The Truth

Thursday, September 14, 2000 - 02:10 pm
Somalis used to have different believe systems before the arrival of islam in the 14th century AD. As mentioned in the collections of the Ancient Greek historian Heradotus who lived 2500 years ago- Somalis have been known at time to be people who value the gods- According to these collections in which Heradotus calls their custom as being ancient, The Somali people believed that there was a unique god for everything- The god of talking - the god of the sun - The god of rain- The god of death- The god of birth- etc. The life of these ancient Somalis were based in faith- People worked and danced and lived for the satisfaction of the gods- The ancient egyptians used to call Somalia as the land of Punt or the land of the gods and this clearly shows how these ancient Somalis valued their gods- Up to now the remnants fo these ancient religions can still be found in the Somali culture- For example, The Mingis and The Boorana are remnants of these ancient religions that the Somalis used to believe before Islam.
It is no wonder that Somalia known in the ancient times as the land of punt were the Haj of the ancient egyptians- Because of its holliness at the time, the ancient egyptians used to claim that their ancestors were from Puntland.

well.
i read some eary egyption books, and they talk about the land of gods and land of put and thing like that. but also there is something that still this day excist in the somali religion, that proofs we used to bleive in diffrent gods.
or example, when somali person is swerring, they kinds say like this...

"Walahi, bilaahi, tolaahi, tin caaro, ta'wayso" and so on....

now we understand that walahi, bilaahi, tolaahi, is an arabic, which is muslim religion. but the rest i heard used to be somalian gods. tin caaro and ta'wayso...
and also there was another god my grandpa told me about which i couldn't find his name. but i will do some research and finded for ya...
