I belong to a race who divide themselves in to clan, sub-clans, sub,sub clans, glorify killing the members of other "clan" or intend to subjugate the other clan.
Some claim racial superiority because they have "finer skin" what they mean is their skin is the closest in color to the white race so they must be the most beautiful and they must rule.
A race who destroyed their own cities and towns.
A race doomed to life as refugee,.
A race whose male population mostly sit chew chat and do nothing but reinforcing their division.
A race whose educated population use the clan as a tool to further their career.
Arrogant and a racist race especially to fellow black Africans, looking down at them calling them names and regarding them inferior cos they have no European features, we do so we must be superior.
The other day an elderly Somali came to where I work said hello to him, he noticed from my hamar accent that I was a southerner he did not want to talk to me. That really hart me wanting to know why he was giving me a cold shoulder asked him politely if I had wronged him he said my people had killed his people. And he had nothing to say to me.
Same experienced I encounter in my uni. Where the Somalis although polite to each other never befriend the "enemy clan" what a pathetic race.
The only people in the 21st century to have no govt and state the only homogenous people in Africa fail to govern themselves and end up as beggars and in welfare in foreign countries and think their superior to others.
A race which butchers its female population.
A race whose women are mostly taught not to think for themselves.

well i do have suggestions for you though they
may sound harsh ?
Being somali is to extent a birth right and choice
in the case of pakistani somalis and other minoraties if u don't wanna call ur self a somali , simply dissocaite your-self from somalia and somalis and join america's melting pot
if you don't have the guts to erase somalia from
your memory , well try some other tactics
approach your people and try to understand where
they are coming from - stop whining and try to help them change , u said people in ur collage
don't befreind across clanlines well be first to cross over and others will follow , form some sort of club( not for fun though) dat deals with
issues facing somalis in ur area n in general.u will have obstacles but u get be man enough to face them.
about u generalising somali men being no good

baises but who don't, iam not defending thier ideas but look at dis example , i have a freind from arrived from south africa recently and he said black first and everyone else follows whether
it is in hospitals , institutions etc. unfortunately he wasn't seen as n i qoute "black"
coz of his somewat caucusain face , light skin n
striaght texture.
i have african american freinds and they don't consider me their homy,iam just their somali dogg.
racism is two way street my freind.
i don't feel any close to anybody except my somali

All i have to say we should stop looking down on each other. And don't take it personall if one clan don't like you they're missing out on how great you are. This Qabiil thing is formed long time ago...back in the Asxaabi days when Arabs asked each other which family they're from to recognize and respect each other.

your problem is not somalia or somalia as such, your problem is low self steam, you get touchy about every silly thing and what is more you have no social skills whatsoever. all my life i never had problem with somalis from all walks of life. even the most ignorant and stupid somali, you can win their respect after exchanging few hostile insults and you know what? you would have no more problem with them after that. Even in virtual communities like somalinet the practice is always the same, that is exactly what happen to Mad mac, in the begining he used to get all the abuse and name calling you could think off, but after a while all that stopped and now he is one of the gang, no body gives toss who he is or where he come from. same thing applies to the clan thing when ppl learn you from clan A, you will get cold-shoulder(just to test your balls), if you feel hurt they would think you're lacking fortitude therefore not worth having you as friend since you can't be relied on when needed. |

I cant say i was like u, but there was a time when i had no contact with somali and somalia for years, i didnt know where i belonged. u rite i did not mention about the people, cause i thought it was one deal thing, when u hear somalia what comes to ur mind, somali (the people) and the rest of u listen to waleed sometimes he knows what he is talking about. u say somali not somalian, very wrong, absolute ignorance.
now sis, I cant imagine a somalia with which u are not part of, i mean what is the land when the people call themselves somali american or somali azerbajenian I ask?
what mo said are all true but the one mistake he made was to his tone, the way he explained the situation, you can be critic and be strong.
I encountered similar situation back a year or two ago, I was scanning my AM radio for something worth listening when i sunnedly heard about this somali woman (model or somthing) talking about the (gudniin, no doubt that it is bad) I listened for a while, i noticed none of the callers sounded abdul or osman, my point is who is the ideal targed for this kind of thing joe bob or dhagaxtuur I ask again? The bottom line is there are dark sides to our culture. This we found out only when we got the chance to compare other cultures to ours, before then everything was nabad iyo caano. so lets give our selves the chance to evaluate things. |

Mo, I truely understand where you are coming from. Somalis like to keep themselves to themselves and clans like to stick with their own. However, when it comes to family, there is none that care for each other as much as somalis, when it comes to religion, there is no race that remains so commited to religion as somalis. I agree that the older generations place a great emphasis & importance on which clan you come from or if you are from the north or south, but today, due to the up bringing of the new generations, things are changing and somalis are becoming a proper race once again. Being somali is not something to be ashamed of, but trying to create a better image for them is the right way to go.
