I was five years old when seven of my unlces were arrestes in our house and jailed for having conspired with SNM. True, thier plan was to join forces with the SNM and free our ppl. But sadly, that very night S.Bare decided to mobalise all the Isaaq men in the Xamar area. My uncles rotted in jail for good ten years and if I tell you what they went through, well ur hearts will bleed. But am sure alot of ppl are aware of S.Barre totorous regime. I remember my mother picking us up from school early on numerous occassions on announcements that my uncles were to be lynched and that this was going to be a public display and any issaq hater can go and watch. I remember my uncles writting from jail, telling us that they are disabled or mutilated in some parts, or that they have become deaf after being drowned in the sea on numerous occossions. I remember soldiers coming to my house looking for men, any men as long as they were issaq, I remember hiding our brother and cousins (boys) in the roof.
This is what the SNM was fighting for.....Siad Barre and his supporters committed severe human rights violation against us.
They only true Revulotion was SNM. I think its the duty of every isaaq person to always uphold thier name and remember our heroes.
And as much as I know that not every somali (non-isaaq) supported S.Barre, and as much as I respect that as Muslims and brothers we should always find it in our hearts to forgive one and another but WE SHOULD NEVER FORGOT WHAT HAPPENED. I know I wont. Long Live SNM LOng Live SOMALILAND. I know our country is not reconised yet, but as the Frenh say " Mieux en Retard que Jamais"....Better late than never. Its us the younger generation who should keep Somaliland's hope alive and going...I know I will.

I am not anti Somaliland or pro-Somalia , I'm in favour of the people deciding themselves what they want. We should learn from world history that you cant impose rule by force forever, the people will also win.
Havent said that , history is biased thats its called HIS STORY. For example an impartial, well read Somali like myself might say to you that you should acknowledge the role of the Hawiya in bringing done Siad Barre. The Hawiya was always referred to as the sleeping giants by the Somalis due to the numerical dominance of Southern Somalia.
If they hadnt risen to challenge Siad Barre the SNM would not have made much of an impact on his rule.
Like I said I am not anti SNM or Somaliland just an impartial Somali historian. |

I WAS JUST KID BACK IN 1988 WHEN I WAS IN BALIGUBADLE. EVERYDAY THEY USE BRING THE INJURED AND THE DEAD TO US. WE BURY THE DEAD WITH THEIR DRESSES ON, AND TREATED THE INJURED.
some times they would bring captured guys from the other side. there always use to be agreement wether to kill them or not. but allways they let them got. keeping the away from the reguler people who their loved ons are killed, and escort them all the way to Ogadenia. i remember how they use to be so scared shaking, and suffering from peranoia. don't know if they'll make it alive next minute. and they always clame that they were farmers and that they were drafted. every humen live is like that tough, and i don't blame them. when you're in enemy hands, you'll do anyting and make excuses just to make it alive. at 13 i wanted to fight, but they wouldn't let me. saying i have to be 15 to fight.
man, i got too many horror stories up in my head. i wish i could write a book about it.
when someone commes to your home to rob, you have the right to defend yourself, and that is what they where doing. and that is what freedom fighting is all about. no matter where in the world.
