Well, a ship is a legitimate military target. If the organization that launched the attack has declared war on America (which right now Hizbollah has not done, but UBL has and the US and Iraq are in a state of war) then this is, in my mind, a legitimate attack according to the rules of war. It was a warship enforcing a blockde on Iraq (which is technically an act of war). However, if an organization that had not declared war (such as Al-Itihad) was behind the attack, then it would indeed be a terrorist act which would be a stain on Islam. Now, attacks like one sees by Hizbollah and Al-Qaida against bus stops and the like, these are not legitimate attacks. I can not imagine the Prophet Mohamed condining the killing of women and children who have virtually no say over the policies of their respective governments. It is unfortunate that the fanatics get so much press time by their extreme acts and paint a false image of Islam in the West. Doubtless this does much to undermine the growth and acceptance of Islam world-wide.

Islam does not support terrirism, whoever believes that you need to dust your Quran and start reading it that is if you have one.It was really bad image for muslims to be the first suspects of every terrirism attack.I am mohamed some of u know me as the other Mad MAc ha!!!!, but the truth is Osama and his followers has nothing to do with Islam. it really hurts me when that ship was attacked. the end of december i will be going on deployment and i dont wanna the same thing happen to me. i am muslim and i love my muslim brothers, and i know there are a lot of a mericans out there who love muslims and are always their loved ones are threatened by some extremist groups.
pls let us read the quran and the hadiths and find out where we support terrorism.
UUs Cole bombing was hard time for me, watching the news with fellow marines and attending class of terrorism make my days long.

No Khalif you dim wit islam does not support terrorism, incase you did not know the word islam stands for "peace". By the way are you a muslim??? because if you are let me be the first one to tell you, you don't the very first thing about your religion. It is understandable and sometimes forgiveable when the non-muslims say things like this but man you need to be slapped.

Mad Mac:
The west's view about Islam does nothing to undermine the growth and the acceptance of Islam world wide and incase you didn't soldier Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world today, despite the negative way the media potrays it. You seem to know the teachings of Islam but you are so dense, what do I have to do to make you see the beauty of Islam???

MAD doesn't know a dime about islamic teachings. Except what he learns from people whom he discusses with. Others are fakers who use the somali link to say their poor views and proffess their low selfsteem.

This question is often asked mostlty by Non Muslims and whenever this question comes up in a conversation I always ask them, Does Christianity condone Child Molestation ? If the Priest can be seen as individuals, Why Cant terrorism be viewed in the same light ??

papa good question, that is right.
sharmake. u get know that america has muslims too over 7 million muslims live in america. aren't they ur brothers.
the bombing, i was listening to clintons speech in feneral of the sailors , he read the names of the sailors, there was one muslim name. i don't know if he/she was muslim or like some of americans who use muslim names coz they like it.if that person was muslim will that not be killing another muslim.
all in all a muslim is not suppose to kill any one unless is selfdefense.
i will get back with u later.

I think Sweetgirl would rather burn in hell than marry the likes of me!!!!

Anyway, lot of interesting comments here. Unlike my comrade the Marine Mohammed, I did not feel great sorrow for the Cole incident. Maybe I'm just to jaded now. As I have stated before, every action has a reaction. Too often our current administration has resorted to force to support its foreign policy. This is bound to lead to adverse reactions. The best way to undermine Saddam Hussein is not to cut him off, it's to overwhelm his regime with visitors from the outside world. It's to get the unrestricted informatinal access. The way to diffuse the crisis between Islamic extremists and the west is to surround them with the real world, instead of trying to isolate them from it. Sure we need to strike back when this sort of thing happens, but at the same time we need to undermine the foundation of the conflict by showing the world that America is not a Christian country, just a country. A country with Muslim citizens, Jewish citizens and citizens from all corners of the world - excpet North America, we killed them off last century.
