     | Wednesday, October 18, 2000 - 01:26 pm A seroius crisis is underway for our new country, somalia. the choise of the countrys' officials nationally and internationally languge is very important for various reasons. we are scatered all over the world and have been exposed to different languages and cultures. but for the new somali goverment only 2 official languages- national language [which i am sure most of you would say somali] and an international languge is reqiured. make your say now what languges should be the official languages for somalia and why For instance a) somali [national] and Arabic[international] b) somali[national] and English [international] c) somali .............and chinees....HindI[URDU]...Italy...japanes ...etc..

| | Wednesday, October 18, 2000 - 06:01 pm dayib salam bro. this is a good topic brother. me and my friends being discussing about this so many times. i think we don't need arabic, we can learn arabic from our arab brother, and islamic universities. but to communicate with the rest of the world we need english. when somalis come to western countries we had to start all over again to learn english, but see our sijuu brothers the never had any problem when they come to the western countries, maybe accent difference. and that is not a big deal. so brothers and sisiters we need english. this has nothing to do with religion so pls dont bring it up.

| | Wednesday, October 18, 2000 - 11:50 pm what a good topic!!!!! The official language of somalia should be somali, BUT what is a somali language?... I believe the somali language should include all the dialects spoken in somalia. As to the second language, we can have english, italian, french, arabic etc.....profficiency in a second language should not be a prequisite to get a job etc, but should be seen as an asset. I beleive most of the somalis, irrespective of where there are born have a good command of somali language, albeit in a broken version.. But I think the era of loud laughters when you speak broken somalia is over!!! It was unfortunate that most somalis, infact the majority of somalis wer forced to speak and write a somali based on nomadism (the central part of somalia).... Some of you recall that we had english, kiswahili ahmaric etc on somalia radio, but we had Gare, rahanwein etc (native languages) on the eter. Some of you may think I am biased but i am not...I am not from somali proper.... How should we tackle this problem.

Is it cadaalad to reer Bay or any other Somali group. The reason is clear because they had the power to enforce it. And remember, there was a time that Arabic language was number one and insha Allah it will be again. Above all, it is the language which the Qur'aan has reveiled on, plus it is the language of here-after(aakhiro). So there is no way to scape from it or to hate it... love and learn it, in order to get to know your beautiful religion. However, i would say if arabic won't be official language, then it should be the second. I'm out.
