I am a recently converted Muslima. I wanted to share my faith and home with others. I am currently the foster mother of 3 Somali children. Their ages are 5, 7, and 9. They are all brothers and sisters. I try my best to make them feel comfortable in their new home, but realize that they are not accustomed to the foods that I cook. I would like to do something special for them for Eid. I am asking that anyone who is serious about ajir please post any Somali recipes they have. If you'd like you can e-mail them to me at "pinkfury@hotmail.com" Insha'allah this simple event of exchanging cultures will make them more comfortable and happy in their new home.

Anonymous,
That is so clever of you. Don't you think that I have already thought about Ramadhan. I am just trying to get an idea of something to fix especially for Eid. I have tried several times to get Somali recipes online but have been unsuccessful. I guess people like you are more worried about my weight and how much I eat than helping out children. By the way, HOW MUCH DO YOU WEIGH and when is your diet beginning? You know what, I am not even going to stoop to your level. If you are not willing to help then that is fine. I don't need YOUR help. Insh'Allah I'm sure someone with a beating heart will assist a sister in need. So, in the meantime you should rush to your local hospital and inquire about a heart transplant. Buh-Bye.

Dear Ruqiyah
Welcome to our beautiful religion which is now yours too.

I'll be more than glad to help you but sadly
my culinary experiences are limited.
Maybe you can get help from the following
WWW.somalilandwomen.com
it's an organisation based in Toronto, get in touch with them.

please don't pay attention to those ignorant surfers.

I wish you plenty of happiness and a VERY HAPPY RAMADAN KARIM.
When you are in doubt read this
" In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most
Merciful, Glory be to Him Who Has subjected these unto our service! And we could never have accomplished this(by ourselve)and we have to return back to Allah."

Ruqiyah, First of all, I would like to congratulate you for choosing our great religion Islam. Secondly, many thanks to Brother Ali Mohamed for such a great response, not many Somalis do that and anonymous is a normal example. I have no experience as far as cooking concern, but my expertise relies on tasting my wife food, and oh boy, she is unbelievable. Now, what can I do sister is ask my beloved wife to write a recipe for you, and in turn I will forward to you via email or she may do that herself. I don’t know where do you live, but I hope that there is Halal market in your city, because most of the ingredients you need aren’t available in a regular super market. Lastly, Somalis promises usually invalid, but I will be accountable for mine. Inshallah the recipe will be in sooner than you expect it.

She did not choose Islam but Islam choose her, because when she was born she was a Muslim ! All children are born Muslim. After birth they adoubt whatever their parents choose for them. When they come back into Islam they are Not "converts" they are "Reverts" they are returning to the Religion they were born with !

Sister I cant help with the recipe part but wish you all the best with the Kids.
