Anon, I am not a fool, but it is true that the Somali language in in trouble and you can't deny that. to refresh you mind, the Somalis who live overseas, don't teach their children thier mother tongue, and since the collapse of the Somali government, there are no schools in Somalia. There are only very limited private schools in Somalia at the moment and those schools choose Arabic istead of Somali. On top of that, the old generation who were the masters of Somali language have died. As result, Somali language is in serious trouble.

Asalaamu alaikum:
Ok brothers/sisters, before anyone starts attacking me for writing in English, please read on and listen to what I have to say.
There should be no shame in writing in our mother tongue for those of us who can. But, I find it annoying when people just pass on unsubstantiated judgment on others without knowing their circumstances, upbringing and generally anything else about thier lives. Lets take me for an example: I can hardly write somali, can read it with a lot of difficulty, to the point if the posting is long, i just give up and can fairly speak it. The reason you ask? I was never taught, didn't grow up with those that speak it, and didn't have the opportunity to interract with those that read/write or speak till I starting coming to Somalinet. Being in the West isn't helping the situation either. So, what do u do with people like me? I do plan to go to Somalia when everything is fine, insha Allah not only to learn the language but to be of some service to my people, in what I know of Islaam and the world in general.
I apoligise for intruding with this "smith" language as some of you called it. If I attempted writing in our "mother tongue", we would be here till the camels come home :-) |
