If not as in the case of some somalis then its harmful and haraaam. This practice was done and it came from the arabs, women used to be circumcised at the time of the prophet and prior to that. The strange African/oriental rituals have always been romantic with the west. Since there is not Livingstone to crisscross Africa to give colourful cruel rituals of the bloody African idiots, the role falls to the Warises and Rushdis of Satanic Verses fame! So is the issue FC really? Kudos to Waris and Iman for thier graphic scenes and congrats to them for the millions they reap.But that is small comfort to the millions of sisters who are suffering! If I were them, I would donate proceeds or part of proceeds to the cause inside Somalia and to the legion of female volunteers on the field carrying the struggle. Understandably, that can hurt. However, have you considered the fact that they had put themselves in a far more worse spot by recounting these horrid experiences to the entire world. Matter of fact, these are the few books that people read about Somali woman's life and experiences, which highlight the earlier sufferings they had to go through in life's miraclous ways. Besides, never did I get the impression while reading these books that the Authors had any malicious feeling towards the whole society, instead they were just telling experiences they had to go through in Somalia or the West. They talk as well about the rat-race struggle in the west and more personal feelings, which goes without saying, that we are just hang up with some triviality that need not be so concerned with.
