Can Somali be divided into two Nations [republic of Somalia and somaliland].?
In this day an age the world is getting together to create an economic power.
The European Union is creating or already created the most biggest market of all [448 million consumers] and while north American nations are trying to create the same unity by trying to improve their NAFTA agreement to a level where more countries in north and south America can participate. The purpose of this, is to be an economic power that will eventually lead them to become a military power. Remember, Economic power will lead a country to become a Military power, China will come to mind. Thus, economic markets of the world are getting bigger by the minute because of unity and CO-operations of those involved. We are in an age where the capacity of the consumers are needed. The more your population numbers are higher the better chances you have to create a giant market. Sadly, Somalia is destine to be divided into two. A nation of less then 8 million people with no big natural resources, expect natural Gases, is getting ready to be reduced into two nations where Goats and Camels are the primary resources. Amazing. What good will that do for our great nation if they[ the warlords] divide it into two? Why are we still living in the horrible memories of the past?. Why can not we come together and solve our problems.? Somalia is situated in a continent that is dead. In other words, Africa is falling from the world Map. Somalis have a great opportunity to create a great nation then the rest of Africans combine. We are lucky to be everywhere in the world. The best places in the world [western democracies] that is. We will better of if we stay unity and face our problems head on. If,the warlord, however, succeed to divide Somali, then we will be two hostile neighboring nations. Each one accusing the other of all the wrong doings that happened in the past. I hope to see Somali as one nation, one people that share one flag, one democratic country which harbor all the ethnic Somalis where they all live in happy, peace and prosperity.

I am an educated somali man with a lot of connections with both north and south> However, the notion of dividing somalia is fabricated political propaganda by few southern politicains> Somaliland was a seperate colonial entity before 1960, after the non materialized union, which never rectified by the people of somaliland, nor the united Nation.
The second part will address your ignorance about the topic you tride to entice everone, comparing somaliland and somalia with European Union and north american free Trade (NAFTA) is comparing apples with Oranges. The Europeans and American are trying to have an economic cooperation not a political unification.
Let us start having and promoting eceonomic and cultural cooperation between all somalis not a never ending decisive political wish full thinking.

Ethiopia itself is not a very natural union (and it can't even balme European Imperialism). You have multiple ethnic groups all competing for governance. Whoever governs always ends up doing so by oppressing the majority of the population. Hence we have the civil war with Eritrea, the OLF and the Oromos try and break away. There is endless potential for conflict there exacerbated by religious differences. The last thing Somalia needs to do is enter into a poltical union with Ethiopia. Hell, they can't even unite within their own tribe.
However, Yohanis does have a point when it comes to economics. Should Somalia, Eritrea and Ethiopia establish stable regimes (and I know I'm reaching here) an economic union (as oppossed to a political one) would be extremely advisable. Trade agreements throughout the horn would benefit all. Likewise, if Somalia can establish a vibrant economy an economic union with the Arabic countries like Yemen and UAE would also be advantageous.
A political union with Ethiopia, however, is insane. Ethiopia will likely remain dominated by Christian peoples and this wouldn't be accepted by the Somalis any more than it was the Eritreans. Nabad Gelyo Jalleo!!! |
