STOPPING THE GAME!
The Battle of the Sexes Between Somali Men and Women

In my opinion, one of the most fundamental

political issues in the Somali community is not who's this Clan or that. It is not police brutality. It is not glass ceilings or school vouchers. One of the most fundamental issues is the battle of the sexes between Somali men and women. The battle is tearing up our families. This battle is causing mass emotional devastation that is taking a great toll on the productivity and creativity of countless Somali men and women. This battle is caused primarily by relationship games...

One may wonder what relationship games have to do with politics. Way more than people realize.
In our community we have Qaad & Alcohol, Coffee House Addicts, high unemployment, illiteracy, poverty, and self-hatred. We sit and talk about what we can do to improve our community. We say we need more jobs, more schools, more opportunity. Everybody has missed the point! We want to treat the symptoms but not the causes. The breakdown of the family must be addressed; and many people do address this issue. That said, I believe we must look even deeper. I believe we must look at the dating choices made by Somali men and women. The way we are coming together is not out of love. We are coming together out of competition.

The major issue with relationships in the nineties is its competitive nature. A man sees a beautiful woman. He thinks of which game he can use to seduce her. A woman sees a handsome man who appears to have money. She begins thinking about which game she can play to win his attention. Neither person is thinking about relating to the other out of pure attraction. Each person has a specific agenda that probably does not take into account the emotional well-being of the other. The man and woman are not thinking in terms of personal growth and building something. They only want to win the game.

We're competing with each other at a time when we should be cooperating. We have come to the point where these relationship games are spilling over into other aspects of life. It is difficult for Somali men and women to come together without some type of conflict. In my life I have seen several Somali organizations rendered virtually ineffective because of this conflict and whatelse Clanism. Talking about empowerment is a waste of time if we are busy fighting each other because of issues stemming from bad relationships. We are having trouble starting stable families because we are too busy playing games to actually work on building something together. Too many of us are losing sight of what is important in life.

The problem with games is that somebody has to lose. There are casualties in this battle of the sexes. The first casualties are the participants. There are so many who are withdrawing from full involvement in the community because they are burnt-out by this war. Many women ask where are the men. There are good men who have been played too many times. Their generosity has been exploited. They have decided to quit the game and in many cases full involvement in life. There are good women who have withdrawn after having their bodies used and their hearts destroyed by unscrupulous "playas." They too, have withdrawn from full involvement in life. The biggest losers, however, are the children.

Children are the major casualties of this war(remember 911). The child in the foster care system, every child who has been used as a pawn in the games of adults, and every child who experiences the trauma of divorce. These children did not ask to play the games. Yet they are the ones who are suffering. They are the ones turning to drugs and gangs. They are the ones feeling alienated from their parents. Children are suffering because their parents and other adults are busy playing games. They are casualties in a war they didn't start.

It's time to end the battle of the sexes. It's time to stop playing games. Somali empowerment is a pipe dream if we cannot relate to each other without playing games. It's time to move from competition to cooperation. In the name of the best that is within us we have to do this for ourselves and for our children.

MA DAWG....

Bro R U from LAS VEGAS? Coz where IM from we don't play games to seduce men. We use the old technique called SHUKANSI.....That concept has been around for ages....It probably hasn't reaches VEGAS yet.......

And as far as the battle you are refering to is concerned, when a man approaches a lady ...it's all about his presentation skills....E.g:- If he comes all up in your face going," What, what girl, U look nice in that dress, but I bet you would look boom out of it". I for one would throw him right next to the trash can...or in the trash can, depending on my basketball skillz....But on the other hand if a nice gentleman comes up to U, talks to your face (not your chest),introduces himself, and strikes an interesting conversation.......he will be welcomed with a smile.....if the girl is single....he might even get her number.....WHO knows.

The point I am trying to make is Dating shouldn't be a trivial persuit......it should be a journey shared with fun, experience and communication....

Hi all;

I have been just wondering what is the difinition of "gentleman" according to female community's prospective?. the reason, i am asking is i try to be one but unfortunately i was doomed many times. First time many of those skirt wearers(female community)said to me i am one, yet when i resist some abuse or manipulation and i discover some plots at work, i was demotted and called "non gentleman at all". So, am i wrong if i define gentleman the following: Every man is gentleman as long as he takes all abuse, financial, emtional, sexual, political and physical ?.

Can anyone out there among skirt wearer community help me out?

I hate to see ppl mixing culture with religion, the two don't mix infact they are like oil and water.
As for you westernised brainwashed guys, learn your religion and act upon it , don't come with excuses such as ( oh! we live in a western country, we have to adapt to it). Adapting is not changing the way you live and blindfoldedly following what is being done around you! it is resisting to it rather, and holding on the robe of ALLAH, act ing upon the sunnah in every aspect of our lives, from being a pure individual to raising and mnanaging our chidren the way described in our HOLY QUR'AN, and the sunnah.
Allah has NOT given a religion for nothing, he hasn't created you except to worship him. And we have been blessed with a chance, to come to a kafir land, and what do we do??? Instead of calling them to allah and spreading allah religion as he commanded us to do , we leave our holy religion and go astray.
repent before it is too late, and fear allah.

Khalil,

I agree with you 100% brother.

It's sad to see soo many sisters change their cultures and religion in these western countries. It's hard to understand how could a muslim sister, who is soo clean and respectfull copy the western womans?...how could the good ones copy the bad ones?...it's hard to imagine.
SISTERS,
-Do you want blessings, and happiness?
-then you must FOLLOW and LEARN your RELIGION.
-be affraid of God, and Naar.
-if you want God to love u, and remember you then you must do the same.
-DONT get lost and follow the kufars...make them follow you...
-DON'T copy them ...let them copy u.
-Remember your origins and know where you come from.
-teach others what you know and God will reward you.

There are some sister that say they are muslim but yet they are not...don't get confused...those are the ones that try to get to your xijab, and salaad, and then make you lost and play with the way kids play with their toys, and play with you the way animals play with food.

Be aware.

Better advice would be:
-Follow your Heart.
-If it feels wrong, it probably is.
-Treat other people the way you want them to treat you.
See how easy those rules are. If you follow those rules, Allah will love you.

Fellas, fellas, fellas;

Slow down on the woman bashing! First of all you men shouldn't generalize and say every Somali woman has lost her sense of culture and religion that is just wrong. Wrong.

Are you men angels or something. But of course you too don't deviate and decide to shack with a foreigner and when it comes time to commit to a "real" "ideal" "longterm" relationship then you think of the Somali woman. WOW! you can accuse of me of generalizing there but that is the way that it is and that is the way I see it.

Please don't generalize and make it seem as though all of us fall under that category of "clean N' cheap" cause I know for damn sure that there are alot of sisters out there who are precious and incredibly gifted, when it comes to respecting their religion, culture, parents, and their essence of being.

Words of advice:
Before you start preaching to others, live by the words that you so hold to be right.

Hi Everyone

i am here today to simple share my point of view with yo all. and i know some of u wont agree with me so i am gona say i am sorry if i offend yo all.
what i saw in here was plain old atteck of so-called servival of the fitst. i mean i saw two group that standing in two different side one is blaming the other is diffending. i see us male blaming and saying all somalian females r horrible they forgot their religion and culture. is that all true and can we say that hell no cause not all of them forgot it, maybe 10 percent forgot it, us somalain males too.

As we look around we see somalian males drinking qamri smoking hashish but they r nice cause they male is that how it goes this days. but we see one lady who is wearing goono gaban we assume right a way that she is b***h so we treat her like dirt but in deep inside she the most kind person u will ever meet. so i can say that is the reason for seeing our strong females doing what they doing she will say u already b***h to them why the hake u care what they think of u now so go all out. but that is not the case all the time. u want to a place u saw this hot looking a lady u went to here and the first think that is in u r mind is she easy so u will get whatever u want so go up to her and talk to her like crap but they don't appreciated that so when she give u what u deserved u will turn around and say i don't want u were already i b***h so get the hake out. so i think the game we refearing all day is this. one is trying to clean the image and one doesn't want to let go the old image that was in the mind already. we don't have blame each other cause we r (damer iyo labadiisa dhagood)

bye.......

A/ALAUKUM W/WABARAKATUHU:
What a appealing and interesting discussion!!!
After I read through all the above remarks made by the bro/sister, I realised that the vasty majority of views boil down to one central thesis. What it is you ask?. That we all want to excell in every aspect of our life and to overcome the steriotypical and baseless blaming of others while overlooking or completely ignoring the fact that we are all in a same boat;thus we will either sinck together or survive and prosper together. However, if we don't define the cause roots and factors to our dillema, any effort gairing to addressing these convoluted and widespread social ills that we , somalis, all are suffering will dissipate and our sole course of route is back to spuare one1 again or more close analongy is we will find ourselves stuck in an infinete loop. What are the basis of our problem, what is a solution, what can be a good way out of this, what is the most effective strategy out of this mass and more, are the question facing to us to respond before relying on only rhetoric and impractical premises. The gender relationship problems are only tiny fraction and perhaps insignificant if compared to the overall strain and magnitude of the other factors that contribute to our problems.
WHAT AM I ELUTING TO HERE? I HOPE YOU ARE STILL READING AND WHIM ME.
In a nutshell, we are overtaken, overshadowed, and overwhelmed by the ignorance about our relegion, our values, our history, and most impotantly our identity. Who are we? I contended you to answer if you can. ALLAH SAID IN THE QUR'AN"(kamathali ximaarin yaxmilu asfaaran bisa.........)" look more details at the end of suuratul jumca).Macnaha aayada oo duuduuban allah waxa uu tus'aale u soo qaatay qoomka xaqqa ka jeensada ama raaciwaaya in ay lamid yihiin dameer malab duudka u saaran yahay laakiinse aan garaney. By ALLAH this is our case today. we don't know how precious is what is in our hands ,the cure for all societal ills and problems, which is the qur'an sunnah.) The bickrering, qurelling, misunderstanding, dissatisfaction, dimenising, disaffection, and all other diffucties in the families in particular and entire body of the public in general wouldn't have been the case had we adheared to the commands of our lord(Allah).

Most of the somali women and men are very well behaved. Most of the somalis here have respect for them self.

I think the problem is selfishness which cannot be cured. Everyone says he or she did this to me and I don't wanna see him/her for the rest of my life! What about the children. I told my cousin who got married recently to use pills for a couple of years because this city is scattered with Somali teens and early 20s who are raising children single handedly. My brother in Islam
I agree with u, jazaakallaahukhayra with u'r concerne about u'r cousine and about the somali youth in general.
I think there are far too many single mums and runaway dads in smali communities every where in these (tough and ignorent)western countries. And that is not all, al these young ppl, (most of them)don't even know their own religion and culture, so they just go with the flow till they don't even remeber who they are any more--------> i am more concerned and feel sorry for these little children those who don't have a proper example in their parents, ilaahow nasoo hadeey kulligeenba, aammiiiiiiin.

(Possible) Solutions for our GENDER differences!:

1. More (open)communications;
We know it isn't our best and strongest side; to communicate, it is not even in our culture. Every human being in UNIEK en that is what attract us to each other( if it is in a limited boundries). But these indifferences we have to talk about them(give each other feedback, regularly) and make them open. Don't feel attacked if some one gives u his perception of u back, but he has to give it properly tooo. This point is for our somali youth in E and US very important and crushal, if we pas it we r in good way to a true happiness with each other.

First of all there is no such thing as the "battle of the sexes" reason: Because women aren't a competition. and tell me something if there is no war of the clans tell me ooh say a couple million somalins have died!! I suppose it was the women !!
this topic is a joke and so are women try to compete with men!!
