I can understand why your not content with the name you already have..but i dont agree with the idea u changing ur name to Elizebeth..that one is even worse.
I f a change is essential..why not change it to a different somali name..Aisha, Yasmine, Hanna, Fozia, Sahra..there are so many attractive somali name..why the hell on earth would you wanna be called Elizabeth?

It is common people to dislike their name, but could'nt you find a better name than elizabeth, even those who are british natives prefer to be called "Liz" rather than elizabeth, sis nothing is wrong with your name, i would strongly recommend you to retain it, to save your self from the hassle of changing all you documents and

Osmand, do you know that you are the most stupid person on earth. Suggesting to change a very beautiful SOMALI name as BARWAQO to Hannah!! What kind of comfort Hannah is supposed to bring!.
Barwaqo, as i said you have a beautiful name and Elizabeth is a fine English name as well. But the question isn't about names, is it?. You want to completely change your identity and get rid of your Somaliness. You hardly want to do anything with Somalis as Ms Elizabeth!. In that case you must know, as you surely do already, that the English will never completely accept you as one of theirs and you'll constately be reminded: " Darling, Elizabeth is a very fine name, is it a common name to you back home?"!! You'll be even more embarrased if you tell them that you've changed your Somali name. That, coupled with ostracism from Somalis, will put you in a lot of personnal pressure.
I don't like to give advices, but i think you'll be much better off, if you are proud of both your somali background and culture and your new adopted country (Britain). And try to have the best parts of both!!. This, of course is an academic suggestion, because, apparently, this is not the case at the moment. But changing your attitude toward somali culture and somalis would be a beginning in the right direction.
As for those ignorants who are calling names, just ignore them (no wonder you want to get rid of everything somali in your life!!). |

Do not change your name. Changing citizenship does not mean you lose your heritage. There's nothing wrong with your name. I think it sounds exotic. I dated a woman named Faisa and I wouldn't have her change it for anything. Acclimating to a new culture is certainly a good thing but don't try to change who you essentially are. Same with religion. Unless you genuinely believe in something different then follow your conscience. |

But hold on , if Barwaaqo doesn't sound good to you and you want European name, i have one better than this Elizabeth thing. it is jasmine. this name is English version of Yaasmiin.
