Another great musical if you can speak German is the three penny opera. Didn't translate well into Enlgish I'm afraid. It calls itself an Opera but it's really a musical. I've seen it live several times and I just love it.
If you haven't seen A Little Night Music I reommend it as well. I thought that was a charming show. And A Chorus Line is great!!! Just a great show. Well worth the take. I caught it on broadway in 1979 and it was a super show. But the film version, while not quite as entertaining, ain't bad. |

And Cabaret? I saw the 1972 Liza Minelli film and got to see it on Broadway in '86 with Joel Grey.. an awesome show, I might add. I'm also a movie freak (Elia Kazan, Alfred Hitchcock, John Cassavetes, Francois Truffaut, Jean-Luc Godard, and Stanley Kubrick are my all-time favorite directors). |

Mad-Mac : Clockwork Orange is a great film -- very very VERY disturbing though. I read the book in highschool (Anthony Burgess) and saw the film afterwards. I really didn't expect to see such graphic displays of sex and violence. It makes you wonder as far as how much the director could get away with at the time (the year was 1971, I think). But then again, it may have been a reflection of what was going in this country -- Vietnam war, civil unrest and so forth. If you notice, most of the films of the early seventies are very dark, and graphically violent, with very unusual themes.
On a lighter note, have you seen Harold and Maude? |

Mad MAc - Heathers is a dark comedy about life in highschool and the measures teenagers take to be accepted. It has a weird twist -- suicide becomes the ultimate tactic towards acceptance and popularity -- when the most popular girl is murdered (after being given drano by Ryder and Slater to nurse her hangover).So, Ryder and Slater fake a suicide letter, and take part in a chain of other such murders ( i.e. the captain of the football team and the star player). It's really much better than I've described -- I highly recommend it. Let me know what you think, after you've seen it. |
