Comrades
I have a friend (a woman) who recently converted to Islam. She's a competetive distance runner who is trying to make the olympic team. Obviously running attire does not cover her arms and legs (way to hot, way too much drag) and the Hijab is impractical. What do Islamic scholars say to this point. What do you woman who are athletic do? Do any of you out there compete in athletic competition?

Hey, Gaal MAD MAC;

ahhaha And now you are here making up some bogus athletic just to see islamic point of view?.
Gaal, tell you friend(woman, if there is one) to ask her local Islamic scholar. And stop being her avocate.will ya?. One wonders why muslim woman would ask a "gaal" to be her advocate in Islam when in fact she is the one who would/can ask.

FYI, In Islam it is not allowed such fantasy(women running nearly naked running for fan) and if your friend converted to Islam ,i guess she should forget the whole idea of being that kind of athletic.

The woman really exists. She lives in Western Canada. She is a recent convert. She asked her Muslim friends and they couldn't give a good answer. I told her that I know there are Somali runners and I heard of one Somali woman who was an exceptional runner so I figured you guys would know the deal. She has been running a long time and she told me she's not willing to give it up, so like your average Somali man who breaks all the rules all of the time I guess she will end up breaking this one. If there are any woman out there I would like to hear your point of view on the subject.

Gaal:

You made me laugh. Ok ok ok. Did i hear you saying men break all the rules?. Hey,in Islam, No one is considered an Angel.Everyone is human and to err we are all humans. Women also do break some rules. Yet we believe that Allah is forgiving and He will probably will forgive any small scaled sin, if not related to harming or hurting another creature. So tell your friend that in Islam it is not necessary to be Athletic more than being good muslim woman. If she says she won't give up this one, then give her go-ahead and break this one as you said. And let us keep our hands crossed Allah will forgive her since she is not hurting anybody's else . But hey no one can guarantee that Allah will forgive her. Give her go-ahead with own risk ;-). i didn't hear any somali woman Athletic but if there is one, i bet she was running on her own risk.

To be honest I'm out of my depth here. I mean, I've been reading the Qur'an but that hardly makes me an expert. I told her to go to the nearest Mosque and ask someone who knows what they're talking about. Then make her own informed decision. Which I think is what you told me to do the first time.

PS - She told me there are a lot of world class woman who are Morocans running and she's pretty sure it's a question of interpretation.

Khaliil,

Quote "And let's keep our hands crossed Allah will forgive her" Unquote. What' that? Why not open your palms upwards like a Muslim?.

MadMac,

As usual, another nonesensical, idiotic, idiocentric criticism.

Ciao

Hey muriidi:

It is all about English idiom DUDE.It got nothing to do with being muslim or gaal thing. By the way i was wrong. It should have been something like this. "Let's keep our *fingers* crossed"--not *hands crossed*--which means "let's hope". Get it Zeniore Muriidi?.

thank you for taking time to let me know i was off the line!.

Khaliil,

It's me again, bro. I don't mean to critisize your comments, but again, this idiom pertains christianity. When you cross your fingers, what sign do you get?. Whether you cross your hands or fingers, you are still appealing to the cross, don't you get it.

Peace bro, hana u qaadanin xumaan, kaliya waa garaadkayga iyo talo siintayda.

Unbelievable huh? You move to a gaal country and the damn things are eveywhere.

I didn't criticize ••••. I simply asked what the standard was. You're so fucking paranoid you think everything is a criticism or a plot. You ought to hang out with Oliver Stone.

MAD MAC;

Calm Down you little gaal. Don't get mad. you see gaal, your saga was hard to believe. And if you remember, one time you promised to stay away anything related to Islam. Didn't you gaal?. And now here you are angry why we didn't believe you. Why anyone would believe gaal anyway?. Gaal is just Satan's little brother or cousin. And for that reason, no muslim should be believing a story originted from a gaal. And if the gaal is the military his lies are much more daming than average-joe gaal on the street. Thus, i guess you will not come here again whining why we didn't beleive you!.

However you are friend and you could be nice gaal.And maybe one day we will buy your cheap story. huhuhu.Have nice day and say me hi to all sisters in the UNIFORM ;-).

Murridi:

Man, you are cornering me and pushing me to the wall. Again, this damn idiom is just everyday english. you can be right that it may originate some kind christian faith. who knows?. But everybody uses this damn thing.And you gotta be using one day if you run out of vocabulary. And If you don't beleive me ask Gaal MAD MAC. i guess he help us here.

I'm not sure but I think crossing ones fingers for luck is actually a wicca thing. The Germans stick their thumb in their fist and their Christians - at least most of them. Anyway, I side with you. Probably no one knows so regardless of its origins I think you're on safe ground.

I have been staying away from religious issue except on the Islam net, which I had to abandon because rational conversation there was impossible.

I love that "no Muslim can believe a story if it came from a gaal". We use to say the same thing about Somalis. "All Somalis lie" was an article of faith. Some Somali would say "there are 200 militia about to attack" and it would turn out that there were 20 guys chewing Khat on a street corner bitching about the Americans.

Average "Joe gaal"?????? That's better than Joe six pack. I'll have to remember that when I'm with my Somali compatriots.

Mad you said <I have been staying away from religious issue except on the Islam net, which I had to abandon because rational conversation there was impossible. >

my question for you is what makes you all the time the rational one..and others irrational?. Do you want people abondon their beliefs and take your opinions instead.?.

<We use to say the same thing about Somalis. "All Somalis lie" was an article of faith.> Oh really?. what did you expect from a guy you paid twenty dollars to spy on his people for ya?..Just stare at you all day...you guys would suspect him would't you?.. He had to invent some story..to insert himself as a legitimate JAAJUUS(SPY)..for you guys...what you didn't know was..that the guy joins the gang on the opposite when things get hot...I like the betrayal..that is how you still suffer..from the kick out...who knows..you could be angry still or embarrassed about it..

< and it would turn out that there were 20 guys chewing Khat on a street corner bitching about the Americans.>... this was really funny..it is a good one on us...I hate to admit.. you are sometimes funny..

Cool
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I'm always right or Muslims are always irrational. The problem (and this problem can be encountered with all faiths) is when you're having discourse with someone who must be right because the Qur'an says so. You can't argue with that. I say you should regard all men as your brothers and he says "You're a liar! I only regard Muslims as my brothers." Where do you go from there. So I prefer politics and social issues and things that, as much as possible, steer away from Islam - although since Islam is a way of life that's not always possible.
