I bet not!
This may sound provocative for many people, but the truth of the matter is we are much worse than we were a decade ago. It is no longer a taboo to admit that Siyad Barre was the lesser of the two evils. Let us get to hear what people have to say about this.

you bet we are better off.

Look,we live in a western free world with lots of oppotunity. We drive bmw,go to school, have nice jobs and a pieceful place. We are no longer subjected to tribal hoopla's and we certainly dont need to be a particular qabiil to be successful.Siad barre was just another african typical president,we should not blame him.Blame the system of governing in somalia.I mean a country that does not use english as major language and does not pay taxes?please?where do u think they'll find extra revenue to build the country?vilage milk cows charity?

Anonymous,
I am glad you made it big some where in North America or Western Europe. I agree when you say that we should not blame Siyad Bare for all our ills ( the faction leaders are equally to be blamed for today's mess). Having good jobs and a secure future may be true of the elite and the privileged ones but how about the less fortunate ones back in Africa. We need to answer this question for them. Are they better off then they were then?

Siyaad

The less fortunate people in somalia are fairing worst i'm afraid.I think the Siad Bare regime was much better than what they have at present.Atleast it secured them from brutal war and harsh circumstances.I wouldn't say siad Barre's government was Pleasantly effcient, but its better than having a No government at all.Hopefully speaking,in a scale of 'Better citenzens'..i think somali people are far better now.Having witnessed the obsolete need for war and qabiil's and hate. And not to mention the far much better of youth becoming more enlightened in the western world for a future tomorrow Somalia!I'll say considering those facts: I say we are far better now!

Somali Youth

What is wrong with you people

Do u really think that the educated and successful Somali youth in the west will go back to rebuilt their nation and compromise all that they have achieved for the good of an illusion called Somalia. This is madness, I personally am never going back to Somalia for the simple fact that here in Canada my safety is almost certainly assured, I dont have to walk around thinking everyone I see wants to kill me, I have freedom to pursue wichever lifestyle i choose and I dont have to answer to some mooryan savage turned Islamic fundamentalist. So in a nutshell dont rely on the Somali youth because we are very happy here in the west and we are never!!!!!!!! going back to hell called Somalia.

To the thing called Somali youth, I have met many idiots in my life, but sure I haven’t met extremely dumb, idiot, stupid, brainless like yourself. It is absolutely true when they said MONKEY SAY, MONKEY DO. I have news for you dumb youth, Somalia refuses to claim people as yourself as one of her sons, due to the fact that you are brain washed with stink point of views. Stupidity does exist, but for Allah sake, don’t abuse such a privilege.
