Oh Boy! Here we go again!
Criteria for success:
1. Good Job- able to provide for self and dependants (generally requires an education)
2. Centered personality- able to maintain a healthy relationship with family and friends (generally requires the man/woman to be happy with his/her achievements- hence educational and professional)- and to be a good Muslim)
3. Caring and responsible- able to emotionally support family. (generally requires the someone to be understanding- and yes! happy with self!)
There is the modified list from all our previous discussions on the earlier forumss- If I am missing something, I will surely be corrected - by the many other opinions out there on the information hwy!

The gap is not yet as big as we, the somali ladies, are expected and as a matter of fact it will stay the way it is may be as bigger as you will never imagine. One thing is certain men in our society have not done what the we,the ladies of our land, have done during those ten cretical years men had killed each other, men had done all the worst in our generations. Somali women had suffered in so many diffent aspects yet waiting to be a member in this disadvantaged society.

hodan men cannot be accused for killing (we kill and build at the same time), just over 50 yrs ago more than 100 million women and children died of war and it was men who created it, and today we are trying to find heaven in those areas (as a refugee i mean). on the other hand, dont forget we are african and we always wakeup after 12 midnight meaning that, we are in war now, when most of the world is talking about economical boom and advanced technology. even america was once hell place!
mr bewilderman, caraweelo stated her ideas and what she thinks, if you are too smart for her, well that is good for you; but you personalised the issue. so stop concealing the truth, read the topic, let me rephares the question again for you "why are more girls in school than boys". this is what we are trying to answer not who attented education training and how long.......bro cool down and let others express themselfs.

mohamed,
i think u and i have the same instincts for details like that, except am not a man,,,anyways u guys can forget about the criteria for success because that is not the problem. as we all know it our somali men can be successful only if they choose to be...excuse my language but they are lazy jerks!!!. more sistas are in school because they made the choice to get ahead, not cook for such species. brothas, don't misunderstand me and think am hating, but when it comes to life in this country that is the way it is.....if u would like, i can point out the things that make our men the least favorite when it comes to concrete goals.
peace.

Mohamed,

I don't know about the other states but the state I live there are more Somali male than somali females who attend schools. I have been attending this university for almost three years and I yet to meet somali woman who attends it beside me. Most of all my Somali brothers help when I need help with my home work or a question about certain subject. They advise me all the time and they treat me as though I'm one of them and for that I will always be greatfull and Alhamdulilah that I have such brothers who are there to guide me when I need guidness.

Mohamed,

you might be right as places vary so do people. I think each one of us is greatfull for some thing. Wouldn't it be nice instead of complaining or pointing out one gender to solve the problem in away that every one can agree. Why not accomplish Somali Student Union where all Somalis student can meet, then do a sample or a full survey and see which gender have a large college students. In my opinion that will give accurate number of students from both genders. If women out number the men, then is our duty to motivate and encourage our brothers in a positve way instead of pushing them to the corner.
That is just my opinino you don't have to agree withh me.

From read this, I think Mohamed is some-what sad that women are been more successed then man. Am I right?, As shangaani said, Women didn't have oppurtinity to go school, or work for their own goods, so Is better I guess that we have all this oppurtinity but WE must know that In our religion is man dupty to take care of the famliy, to support the family. The only reason why there is more WOMEN in school then man is simply walallaya, it because WOMEN don't have as much as reposilblity then, This how it works, if a man wants to get, he has to paid all the expenseds right?, Why can we share? why does it have to man resposibility? don't get work, I have 9 brothers and 7 sisters who are a LIFE, and when some of my brothers where getting marry, they had to work before they actually got marry you know what i mean, while their wife to been going to school, although i am very much happy for them. so don't try to women are this or that. I just think we have our own choices, wheather we want to go school or work full-time. At least we are better then somepeople who happen to be before us. well, that all I have to said for now. take care until next time.

There seems to be a general consensus here that women are more successful than men. I do not know whether this is a sweeping generalization of a specific situation to Ibrahim, or he is putting up some show for the girls. I live in Sweden and have been to many European countries. Here, the unemployment rate of Somali women is somewhere between 99 and 100%, and there are as many marriages as divorces. You may work out the statistics on those yourselves. The figures for men's unemployment is somewhere between 90 and 100%. To take a specific example: of 28 girls who finished high school where I live, 0 made it to university.
The point is this. I find it ridiculous comparing figures such as 99% and 90% unemployment rates (in a country where the average is 4%). But that girls are doing better that boys, or even just 'good' is a myth in where I live. If that is the case in N America then I glad that someone is doing fine!

Salaan ka dib.
Good topic talk about.
Please no way we criticise each other(Bro.& Sis),but lets take good ideas and be realistic.forget insulting, condenming, and nonsense argue.
There is big difference living here and Somalia. The big challenge is the whole life for us to face , coming new lands and Cultural. We have to work hard (Education / job).
We are happy our girls doing wonderful, who good educated Sis.or Mom,like boys too. At sametimes we support our girls to be great.
But here is the problem, when some girls learn something they to throw their valueas as a Somaligirls, and pretend somebody else.As what men shouting.
Lets compromise, men have to work hard and girls more sensitive to their family and cultural, not more deminding always.
What best God knows.
bye
