I can ask a friend of mine, the name of the author and publisher...what is u r mail?

by the way: why is the arab connection not welcome? if u want to do a research on somalia you have to look at all sources. LOL

Whats the point of you starting this debate when someone has posted the same question on this forums page. He called it where did the somalis originate from?

Theres no point having two debates on the same question.

I posted that question before the other person did, but did not follow up, anyway what does it make you feel to see people searching or doing their own research without conformity. My suggestion to you is if you don't have any positive feedback, don't you think it is wise to use your valuable time intelligently.
Thanks for your comments anyway.

Dear Nasdaq, Firstly let me apologise for my earlier comment (as annoymous) as I didnt want to write this all out again ( I posted it in the other Somali origin debate), but like you said to be positive I would like to make this contribution to the debate.

The Somali's are an ancient people who have the most mysterious of origins.

We are 1st mentioned in literature ,by the Habashes in the 16th century during the Ahmed Gurey (Gran) islamic war with Ethiopia. Before then we were refered to as the black berbers.
Hence the origin of the town Berbera.

Although today the word berber is used for the idigenous peoples of the Magrheb (Morroco, Libya etc) we were called it before
them - hence there must be a relationship with them. And there is linguistically the Berber language is Hamitic
ie. same language family as Somali, Oromo, Ancient Egyptian, Afar, Berber and ancient canaanite.

All historians agree that the Somalis (black berbers) were in control of Mogadishu in the 7th century AD. But what did we call ourselves

We know the Hawiya and Dir migrated around this time from North Somalia to the South.

I personally think that Somalia was like the Italy of the 19th century i.e a nation not a state
By this I mean that loyalty was to your area or tribe rather than as a Somali.

Perhaps other people called us Somali and we called ourselves by our tribes.

That was the case with the Welsh people of the UK , they were called Welsh (Foreigners) by the AngloSaxons whilst they
called themselves Cymry (Fellow country men).

Anway to go back to the main point we can logically argue that we inhabited the horn of africa since the days of Queen
hateshput since her expedition to the land of punt. Her reliefs at Dier el bahri show clearly the Somali features of the King &
Queen of Punt.

However that was thousands of years ago. We did not speak Somali then as the Afar & Oromo languages were not in existence
then i.e we spoke a proto cushitic language.

So when you are talking about the origin of the Somalis we need to be more precise and state what time period you are talking
about.

If we go even further back in history there was a time when the hamitic & semitic languages were as one i..e proto afro-asiatic.

It is well know by linguists that the Semitic languages are younger than Hamitic Languages.

Languages like Arabic therefore originated from Hamitic languages like Somali.

There was a time then that the South Arabian countries like Oman, Yemen and Saudi Arabia were populated by Somali looking
people.

This is not just a theory as if you go to the Dofar province of Oman, the Frankicense bearing area, you will find the Qara people.
Thses people are of pure Arabic descent (Qahtan / Joktan) whilst looking identically to us Somalis. How do you explain that.

Their language (Qara) is not classed as Arabic but as South Arabian. That is the same catorgary as the semitic languages of
Ethiopia i. Geez, Amharic, Tigrean etc and no-one would argue that they look any different from Somalis.

The Mahra people of the Oman & Yemen and the people of Tihima & Asir of Saudi Arabia are also classed as pure Arabs due to
their genealogies but if you saw them you would think they were Somalis.

The light skinned Wahabi Arabs of Saudi Arabia are not the true inhabitants of Arabia but were put there after Lawrence of arabia
interfered in the Arab civil war.

The Somalis therefore have a difficult time with their origins because we are an ancient people who lived in the Horn of Africa as
well as in South Arabia. I truly believe we occupied both sides of the Red Sea, but we were not called Somalis. The Term
Somali is a relatively new term.

Hence we need to find out what we were called in ancient times.

This is not difficult to find out, as when our country becomes stable again , inshallah, our Somali archaeolists can discover
some unknown writings , decipher them like the Rosetta stone of Egypt and the enlightened us & the rest of the world.

There are many caves in Somalia which have Himyaritic (Ancient South Arabian) type writings on them.

That is the clue to our origins.

Somalis were also ancient travellers, thats why you find Somali looking people in Chad, Mauritania, Niger etc as well as the
Indian ocean islands of the Maldives.

The muslim people of the Maldives attribute their
islamic teachings to a Somali sheikh of the 16 century (they called him berber).

We also know that the Malaysians and Persians (Shirazi's) were present in Somalia at some point which has had a contribution
to the history of Southern Somalia.

ps I found a recent reearch paper published on genetics and it stated that the most similer people to the ancient egyptians DNA when comparing to their neighbours were the Somalis. The had the shortest genetical distance (2), the next was the Nubians (13).

Confused! your not the only one.

To conclude there is a famous saying :

THE MORE YOU FIND OUT THE LESS YOU KNOW.

broths and sistuhs, it is not about where our origin is but it is about who we are. It does not matter much to me if we are origins of Arab, Bantu, Oromo, or whatever the books say. You know what, most people in the world believe that Adam&Eve are the ancestors of all the human race, and that is where the origin of the Somalis is. We are the children of Adam and Eve and that is where our origin is, so please be proud of that and don't think about that we were once Apes which is Darwin's theory. My fellow Somalis/Somalians please stop worrying about our origin, lets worry about the origin of our problems we have today and how we should solve them. Waad mahadsantihiin walaalayaal. SOMALI HA MIDOOWDO. SOMALI CADAWGEEDA ALLAH HA JEBIYO. AAMIIN!
