| | Wednesday, February 28, 2001 - 10:05 am Bro thanks for bringing this topic up. There are a lot of differnt opinions on this discussion. We all have our own opinions and mine is that there are many differnt types of people who have established differnt lives in these western countries, therefor they had differnt opinions on whether to stay there or go back to their motherland. Some people came to the western world seeking assylum and refuge. Some moved into heavilly Somali poppulated ares where there were strong communities and some adopted the western mentality and the western way of life. These people Came to these western countries and made themselves too at home (as if they would never return to the motherland), and began to think that they owned those countries. That is how Somali gangs started. Some of these poeple think that just because they have jobs, their houses and all this money that they do not need to return to the motherland. They have attitudes like "i don't hang around with Somalis" as if it's something to be ashamed of! Or "i have my own life" as if anyone cares! Or "i don't need to return to Somalia". These people (in my eyes) are wrong because they are forgetting their roots and where they came from. They don't realise that they need Somalia and their culture just as much as Somali needs them because you should never forget who you are and where you came from. And no matter how much you deny it to everyone else you can't deny it to yourself. Some people never had it in mind to return to their country, they talk about Somali's and Somalia and say things like "Somali's are like this", "Somali's are like that", "that's why they their country turned out that way" as if it's something to brag about, they slander their own people as if they are not Somali's themselves. Not all are like this though, most held tightly to their cultures and worked hard but felt that they wanted to stay in the countries they had built their lives in. some types of people came to the Western world also seeking refuge and assylum. But these people hoped to go back to their countries. Some went to college, found jobs, baught houses not knowing whether the war would end they hoped to sell up and return to the motherland. They always had hoped that one day they would return. Me, walahi i don't know because of the political state of the country at the moment. My views do not involve tribalism but i want to go back to a country that i consider safe for myself and my future family inshalah. I want to go back to a country where i can work and have a stress free, happy life. I don't want to go back to an unhappy country. Perhaps i will go back and build it up. I love my country but i'm not sure how much of my life i am willing to sacrifice to build it. I would like to work for the red cross at some point of my life, just travelling with aid workers and working to rebuild Somali communities and educationg them about things such as disease, sanitation, clean water, studies and starting small chsrity funded projects. If i have offended anyone with my comments then please take into account that these are just my views and opinions...nothing more ok. so~~~~~~~~~ P.E.A.C.E & L.O.V.E

Picture this y'all.....a place were u can walk around freely and not worry about whether ur kids or brothers or sister will get attacked by some racist or be discriminated against or treated like an outsider. A place were u know the language, the culture, the religion the ppl are all the same. Were u get treated with respect and love by ur fellow somalis, were ur not dictated to by white men. Now picture where u all are now. America, Canada, England, Holland, where ever it may be it will never be ur own home. U will never be treated as an equal or as good as they treat themselves. U will always be the OUTSIDER, THE UNDERDOG, the last to be consider for a job even though u are better qualified!!!! Is that the way u wanna live ur entire life??? Is that how u wanna bring ur kids up....exposing them to that kind of environment??? I for one dont. I have been back home and I have seen how the ppl live and u know what....they might not be all listening to the lastest hip hop tune or driving a Merc or wearing designer lables but they do have an identity and a place to belong to. THEIR OWN HOME!!! Speaking 2 DJ TIM now. Dont be fooled by what u have in america boy cos believe me it aint no heaven!!! Movies, weed, hoes???
