Since we're not back home, this society encourages us to assimilate and deny any pride of our culture and worst of all, our deen. What our ppl are forgetting is that much of our culture's values comes from ISLAM's principles, b'coz we r muslims. But in this part of the world, since it's a secular system,they have separated culture and lifestyle from religion. So somalis, having immigrated to North America and Europe, have separated deen and culture, and basically think that to be religious you have to wear a kufi or wear a long jilbaab. NO, i think the problem is that of mentality, and if they adhere to these thoughts, then there's no room for change. Also, somali ppl tend emphasize alot on culture and forget the most important component of our lifes, islaam. Islaam teaches us morals, how to treat your brother, sister, family, and even how take care of the environment. To make a long story short, let's change our hearts and stop the hatred and the "acting up" ppl. Remember, Ramadan is only a week away, it's the perfect time to start.
