WHY MANY PEOPLE OPPOSE THE NAME"OGADEN,OR OGADENIA?" |

whenever you visit a website designated for the S/Galbeed people,you are bombarded with hundreds of hot debates and discussions!People constantly argue about the name Ogaden. It is true fact that the Ogaden is a famous clan,which belongs to the Absame tribe of the Darood.
With the advent of the imperialist arrival in the land of S/Galbeed,the enemy of the people adapted the theory of "Divide and rule."As a result of this,it gave the name "Ogaden"to some part of the land in order to weaken the power and unity of the nation in the area.The sole purpose of the devil was to divide and rule.It has given another part of the land the name"Gurgura and Isse." this was also another ploy to forever keep the the S/Galbeed people under its filthy foot.
As time went by,alsmost all the other names were thrown away for the unity sake.The Ogaden clan,unfortunately,still clings to its name. The other clans in the area oppose this name constantly. People do not oppose the name Ogeden because they do not like the tribe,or hate the tribe. The reason is that the name divides the same people in the area,and at the same time, brigs about animosity and hatred within thier lines.
I pesonally believe this is the reason that many people oppose the name. The name is seen to be a threat to all other clans in the area save the Ogaden tribe who calls for the name and its practice.
Traditionally,all Somalis in the area have been fighting for the liberation of the land, and to eventually unite with the rest of the Somali territories. When ONLF,nevertheless,emerged in late 80's, the difference of the people in the area has invariablly been deepening and widening,and so many difficulties were met because of the name.Moreoer,ONLF is seen by almost all the Somali tribes in the area other than the Ogaden to be a clan based front,and it has nothing to do with the interest of the other clans.
So many people say "Why people oppose the name?" I think that these individuals are ignoring the fact.The fact is that the muslim and Somali tribes in the area do not see that the name ONLF,or Ogadenia,whatever you call it,has any benefit for them at all.That is why the name is being opposed.
When it comes to the liberation of the land,no single clan will be able to liberate it.All clans need each other,and no single clan can stand alone without the help of the other.
In clusion,I see that the name Ogaden is not relevent one for the people of the region.The good name is S/Galbeed,but many people refuse it without apparent reason whatsoever.All the Darods,Dirs,Isaqs,Hawiyas and others want this name.Then why not take it?
Nobody argues about the liberation of the land. The problem is"Do we name the entire land after your clan,or not?"
I expect that I will return to the debate when I see other different views.

Who gives a damn about them. If they want separation then they can obtain it. The name isn't so superior. You must be from there because of how you continuously talk about it in loyalty. They can't survive with out Ethiopia. Ethiopia is there soul. You need Meles in your life buddy. |

S/Galbeed people need to face the reality; the reality is to fight against their enemy as a single person.The people of this land can't liberate their land under some tribal names because names can,t avail anybody whomsoever. We are Somalis, siblings, have the same culture, and speak the same language.Our sole difference is merely that of a tribalism.Everyone of us is a victim of this sinister disease.If we really want to fight for God's sake and seize our people from the hands of the current Ethiopian system, we can unite ourselves, and at the same fight side by side.
Some people say that every tribe has to create his own front, and name after its clan.This is quite absurd idea, and it is devoid of any kind of wisdom.Another thing is: If we liberate our land under tribal banners, our huge land will eventually disintegrate into small segments ruled by powerless clans. S/Galbeed was historically part of the other Somali territories, and it has ever since been fighting to secede from Ethiopia and reunite with its people-Somalia.I would tell all my Somali fellows, who trace their origins to the S/Galbeed roots to put aside their minor differences and fight for the liberation of their land.The land was taken by force, and it has to be returned back to its legitimate owners,the S/Galbeed people.
