Samer | Thursday, April 12, 2001 - 06:52 pm Ogaden Human Rights Committee, USA, would like to bring world attention against Ethiopian government’s human rights abuses in Ogaden Region. On April 03, 2001, following an attacks by Ethiopian army and state supported local security forces on an innocent civilians in Wardhere, Gode, and Malako, a number of people including elderly woman have been killed, hundreds of young men arrested, tortured, and sustained a permanent personal injuries while in detention. The elderly woman who lost her life in Wardhare City is said to be Fadumo Jama Nagdeq, age 54. All of these victims are accused of having family members belonging or supporting Ogaden National Liberation Front, which recently step up their military operation in Ogaden. We the Ogaden Human Rights Committee, USA, appeal to all human rights groups and international bodies to help prevent perpetrators of this human tragedy and gross violation of human rights. We further hold the government in Ethiopia fully responsible for the atrocities carried out by it is Army and local security forces against innocent civilians in Ogaden Region of Ethiopia We also demand that the government to provide a full account of the number of fatalities over the past few days and return the bodies of those killed to their families.
