     | Wednesday, September 27, 2000 - 10:02 pm ETHIOPIAN ARMY REPORTEDLY "PERSECUTING" ETHNIC SOMALIS IN SOUTHEAST BBC Monitoring Service - United Kingdom ; 26-Sep-2000 12:00:00 am ; 144 words Text of report by Ethiopian opposition Radio Freedom on 26th September Reports from Gode in Ogaden [southeastern Ethiopia] say the Tigrayan troops based there have taken over all the businesses. Local traders have lost their property and some have gone into hiding, the reports further add. All vehicles carrying goods from Somalia owned by businessmen from Ogaden are taken to the Tigrayan military camps as soon as they arrive in Gode and ransacked, according to the reports. Other reports say the Tigrayans are stripping women naked claiming they are searching for things, a violation of the values and strict moral code of the people of Ogaden, which do not allow men to search women. The motive is to chase residents away from their homes, to make them flee to neighbouring countries, or to make them yield to the oppression and persecution being carried out by these tyrants.
