     | Thursday, December 21, 2000 - 01:39 pm Dear Readers My name is Faisal Dirie,aged 21,currently a student studying Law. Eversince my arrival into the western world, i observed my people-somali people to be specific,and came to the inescapable conclusion that they are up to nothing nothing good,indeed. While this is in fact the truth,somali men tend to overlook it simply for no reason at all. The cultural changes that are visible among the somali families living in the west is due to the arrogance and the primitive mentality of the old somalia which is no longer applicable to the present day reality of the modern world. The most annoying aspect that i came to hate and which is so prevalent among the somali men is the battering of their own families needless to say the dangers they pose to their neighbours. Family as we know is the core of our existence and deserves the respect and the protection of society as well, for it is the family that we all belong and to the family that we all strive to have. What does it feel like to batter the lady whom you used to cherish,the lady whom you used to call --[honey,sweetie,macaaneey,xabbiibilo]. And what does it feel like to strike her on the face leaving permanent marks on her delicate face,the face you men used to kiss.what a shame!!!!. Somali men,,please one advice //// be whatever you want to be but please dont batter your lovely wives. they are the comfort and the joy of life,they are above everything else th ones you chose to live and share your life with. There are thousand ways of solving conflicts. I wish you all the best and a happy ramadaan. .I am a volunteer worker . My job currently involves counselling couples and families having difficulties and misunderstanding. That is part of my programme of studies concerning family law.
