The new re-classification of Somali clans is nothing but a recipe for disaster. This classification is a new dangerous dimmention added to the already destructive clan system. This new categorization represents a new cast system of classifying clans according to their supposed importance.Calling the most oppressed Somalis others is equivalent to India's untouchables, people who have been oppressed, vilified, ignored and discriminated against. The Djibouti confertence was supposed to redress past wrongs especially against the people dubbed others and also against other Somalis.Along the so-called others the Dir clan and Rehnweyn were oppressed and disenfranchised.A lot of people playing a major role in the Djibouti conference were those who tookpart in the former oppressive and racist regimes of the past.I think the Djibouti conference is another excercise in futility. This conference is farce and nothing sustainable will come out of it.Non of the injust, and oppressive policies of the former regimes of Somalia have been addressed enough.Shame on you!

Walaalayaal, is it possible that you are both over-rating the weight of semantics here!
Before dismissing the conference altogether, shouldn't one consider the rationale for choosing such a word as "others". Instead of jumping into the bandwagon of the conspiracy theorists or the bandwagon of the warlord henchmen; did you try to find out the real reason why the word "others" was used. Is it because people drafting the documents are not experienced in the "art of political correctness"??? Should a conference be derailed because of one word or is the rational thing to do is to point out the negative word and ammend it?
To attain a perfect solution, people have to go through a process of trials and errors. The challenge is to correct what needs to be fixed, not to give up and cry foul. We should see the outcome of the conference as a 'draft' blueprint that will serve as a springboard for civil society to engage in the political process of nation building.

A group of 12 guys were asked a simple question:
"Why did the virtual chicken cross the road??"

The first guy's perspective was:

Keep it Simple. So his answer was "To get to the other side"

The Philantropist answered: "for the greater good"

The Scientist said: "It is the nature of chickens to cross roads"

The Risk-taker said: "To boldly go where no chicken has gone before"

The Strategist said: "Deregulation of the chicken's side of the road was threatening its dominant market postion. The chicken was faced with significant challenges to create and develop competencies required for the newly competitive market. Using the Poultry Integration Model (PIM), the chicken determined that to maintain its #1 postion it must cross the road and acquire new people and technology and send them through a Program Management Framework.

The Visionary replied "I see a world where all chickens will be free to cross roads without having their motives called into question.

The Establishment response was: "And down from above He said unto the chicken 'Thou shall cross the road'. And the chicken crossed the road, and there was much rejoicing.

Just The Facts guy said: "You saw it cross the road with your own eyes. How many more chickens have to cross the road before you believe it?

Let's Get On With it guy said: "The point is that the chiken crossed the road. Who cares why? The end of crossing the road justifies whatever motive there was.

The Philospher answered: "Why does any-one cross a road? I mean, why doesn't anyone ever think to ask, 'What the heck was this chicken doing walking around all over the place anyway'?"

The Technologist replied:"I have just released the new Chicken Office 2000, which will not only cross roads, but will lay eggs, file your important documnets and balance your chekbook.

The Feeling Type's response was: "The question is not, "Why did the chicken cross the road?" Rather, it is "Who was crossing the road at the same time, whom we overlooked in our haste to observe the chicken crossing?"

The moral of this story walaalayaal is that we all have different perspectives that has been shaped by our individual experiences, level of education and the ethical standards we hold.
It is imperative to be aware of these difference when we work as a group of teams. Most Somalis today want the same things. Peace, stability and justice for all. It is easy to get angry, throw in the towel and point fingers. The challenge is to stay the course and work things through one brick at a time......the word "others" can and should be ammended.

Iga raali ahaada waan ku dheeraaday meesha.....it is my quota for the week:)
