     | Sunday, October 01, 2000 - 05:23 am I am a Black woman born and raised in the US. I have dated Somali men, and enjoyed my experiences with them. Is there something wrong with Somali men marrying an American woman? Am I to blame that I am a descendant of Africans brought to this country centuries ago by whites? Can you say I am to blame for the culture I was raised in and forced to embrace because it is the only culture I know? It must be nice to know where you are from. Most Black people in this country know only that they are of African decent, they do not know where. So again, why is it so wrong for a Somali man, or any African man to marry a American woman? | | Thursday, October 19, 2000 - 10:22 am Okey, let me put it this way sista, There are numerous African American women or people who despite the fact make jokes on their brothers and sisters who come to this country simply because they have an accent and communities get portray some of the common terms and slang used among the African American communities in here. On the other hand the Image of the African American community was severely damaged by the American media when they portey you as criminals and drug infested community which deters some of the African folks to endeavor their efforts to show up to your doors. Other than that I don't see any reason why would an African man would not marry a sister from U.S. except some racist elements who feel too superior even for other Africans in Africa. However, you could overcome those issues by dedication to your achievements, we all men like a women who is successful and understanding. I hope we continue this discussion as you started it, Thanks

I leave in US for some time now and lately I have been planning to get settled. I am determined to keep my black race without being racist, but it is something I am very proud of it. Hey to all - do not miss interpret that as a Muslim, there is no race/color but Muslim brotherhood. I do believe that within Islam it is OK to make such a choice as long you don't break the encapsulating rule. I looked wide choices among the black race in America from different origins Caribbean, Africa and Afro-Americans and my conclusion is simple. Be with your kind and I would like to give you more facts. If I marry an Afro-American sista for example (muslim or non-muslim), and then she gives me few kids and I pass away. My kids grow up and have another generation. Hmm, do they know their origins other than being Americans (NO). Ok here is one easy and complicated fact. I read about the famous Author who spent 10 years in Africa trying to find his origins and finally traced back in West Africa and many other similar who unfortunately failed to traced back to their ancestors. What if my great-great-children try to trace me back ??? It is just something I can avoid now by simply marrying my kind, of course Somali girl. The other thing is the CULTURE, THINKING, WAY OF LIFE and after love and entertainment is over and start living together in real life, it will be uneasy as your differences are huge!! I have many friend of Afro-American brothers and they are very disciplined and successful in their lives (there is always exceptions) of course they are married to their kind as well. I HOPE THIS HELPS and I had good intention for sharing my view. I wish you good luck with your kind and it is the best choice. A Brother lost in America

The North Easter Horn of safrica presently known as SOMALIA is made up Semitic people who are well known for their vigilance and religious extremism (Just like Jews and Arabs) However they share a lot with their African Brothers in the continent and Somalia Generally is known to be very particular in respecting other traditions and other cultures....... Inspite of Modern age youth outgoers and Funloving X-generation and Y generations as well as Yuppies,Yet, Recent Statistics show no change what so ever in Somalis cross-marrying from other races or other countries.....and a very minute minority in US,UK, Europen and Asian Somalis ever maried from their adopted countries. This is mainly because of the reasons mentioned above........
