Why is it that the Older generation of Isaaq people call themselves DIR , while the less educated younger Isaaq never associate themselves with DIR. This is a genuine question.
All the older Isaaq men I talk to say quite categorically that the Somalis consist of DIR IYO DAROOD, whilst the young Somalilanders of today ignore this and pretend that they have nothing to do with the DIR.
This trend was also observed for a short period with the ESA. They sometimes forget they are DIR and pretend that they are Issaq!
You have to remember that both Isaaq and Darood both married into the DIR tribe so be proud of being associated with the DIR as it is your passport to being SOMALI.

Hi everybody!!!!!!
There is only Dir in Somaliland that is my opinion. Darood and Isaaq are as real as a science fiction movie loool(Basically thay are not real).
I am an Issaaq(Garxajis) by birth but i am DIR as well. The Issaq in my opinion was a clan that grew so big and wealthy(Comparatively) that they branched of from the DIR and claimed Arab descent to solidify their muslim identity. This was done by Muslims through out the world.
We as Somalis have intermarried with the Arabs but we can not be Arabs it does not make sense to believe that, thus we can say with certainty that clans was a fantasy that became real.
Our ancestors claimed Arab descent for religious resons and prestige, rememer at that point in time we had just became Muslim and we wanted to strengthen our bonds with Islam thus the fictional Sheekoyin.
When serious research is done you can only come to the conclusion that the DIR/Galla peoples are what we are all, this other nonsense is fictional that is my opinion but you can go on believing that you are something else, it is free world and free expression of ideas is vital for a healthy society.
