The fate of Somalia's so called parliament speaker, Abdalla Derow Issak, and his whereabouts remains unknown after heavy fighting erupted Saturday morning between the rebel Rahanwein Resistance Army (RRA) and the arta faction militias outside Tieglow district of the central Bakol region.
According to independent sources, the fighting began as the delegation of the arta parliament speaker tried to leave for Huddor town, regional capital of Bakol region, where reception has been prepared for them.
A large convoy of security escort provided by the abdulqasim to the derow was sent back to Mogadishu after the traitor was received in Tieglow town Friday night.
Independent sources said the RRA fighters sent from Baidoa town Friday had spent their night in Bioley town before launching their attack the next morning to ambush Issak's bandits on their way to Huddor town.
The less armed forces of the perpetrators were said to have been crushed down and dispersed as they were pelted with heavy fire from the double barrel anti-aircraft heavy machine guns. The fighting took place just one kilometer outside Issak's hometown, Tieglow district.
So far there have been no exact casualty figures available. However, independent sources confirmed that at least nine people were killed and over a dozen others from both sides were wounded.
The RRA forces reportedly entered Tieglow town and started from the house where Issak slept Friday night, killing three of his close relatives in the house before ransacking the whole building.
The first fleeing supporters and militiamen of the abdalla derow are now bound to El-Ali village, some 60 kilometers east of Tieglow town, where their delegation was warmly received on Friday.
Mohamed Ali Aden Qalinleh, "governor" of Bay region, also confirmed the fighting in a telephone interview. "We defeated seriously the aggressors sent by Mr. Abdiqasim Salad Hassan outside Tieglow town this morning," he said. "And we chased them out of our territories."
According to Qalinleh, his forces have captured five trucks including two first class landcruisers which the delegation used. "We have also captured their telecommunication equipment on a pick- up landcruiser," he said.
Qalinleh also claimed that his forces have captured 15 barrels of fuel and large amounts of ammunition and assault rifles.
There is no official word as yet from arta faction side over the fighting in Tieglow town. However, some unconfirmed sources indicated that the derow has himself fled to an unknown destination with few of his bodyguards.
The town of Tieglow has remained out of the air after all of its VHF radios were silenced by the invading RRA forces led by Mohamed Ibrahim Mohamed, second deputy chairman of the RRA, at 10: 00 local time Saturday morning.
The delegation of the arta faction , comprising self styled ministers, other arta officials and Members of salad's close aid was on mission aimed at jeopardizing security and stability in Bay and Bakol regions for the sake of avoiding peace building blocks in somalia.
This is the second serious setback the arta faction has faced since last month. It was only 18 days ago when the new government invaded Balad, a town controlled by faction leader Muse Sudi Yalahow, they were chased out immediately.
This second setback took place at a time when hundreds of well- armed and uniformed former policemen supported by militias with battle wagons were working on the security around the main Bakara market of Mogadishu after its vegetables ward caught fire Friday as a result of fire exchange between rival militiamen in the area.
According to Abdullahi Muse Hussein, Mayor of Mogadishu, the operation is aimed at restoring law and order around the market and clearing some of the roads blocked by charcoal vendors. |
