President Abdiqasim Salad Hasan delivered a lengthy and thrilling speech at the summit of African heads of state and governments in Sirte, Libya, yesterday. President Hasan said there was an urgent need for Africa to unite, adding that in the past 40 years the continent has been facing many problems and challenges and the most serious among them being the issues of internal civil strife and conflicts.

Commenting on his government's relations with its neighbours he said the interim Somali government believed in good neighbourliness and cordial relations with the neighbouring countries and called on them to reciprocate.

The president said the interim Somali government had put in place all social service infrastructures and called on African countries to come to the help of the interim Somali government in all fields of development.

Finally, President Hasan expressed his gratitude to President Ismael Omar Gelleh of Djibouti for his tireless efforts to bring about reconciliation among Somali people.
