Wuu i daa daheeyaa.....Sahra Axmed Jaamac.... all time favourite of mine..... it is so classical... i love it ...her rythme is un matched... and voice is what i would like my wife to have....NOt... aight the voice is a lil wack... it sound like her husband squeeses her neck a lil too thightly... she sounds like a chicken struggling for a breath.... still love her though...she reaches parts other somali females have failed to reach... ;-)

Any songs that has the term Wardheer in it is my favourite and who sings it is my singer!!!!

For real, think about it all the songs that has this city are fantastic, for example,

"Wadada loo maruu wad yaalaayee Wardheer dal wanaagsaneydaa"....

"Wankii aan qali lahaabaan Wardheer kaaga dirayaa" waa tii ay Maandeeq lahayd.

"Heesaha Wardheer baan ku habaa naftayda" waa tii uu Xasan Aden lahaa markii uu yaabanaa....

Anyways, I think the new album by Saynab Cige and Ileeye is excellent. Riwaayadii Qabrigii jacaylku waxay ahayd riwaayadihii ugu murtida iyo xikmada badnaa, marka in lacusbooneysiiyo oo music cusub loo sameeyo waa arin fiican. I would vote that album the album of the year...

see when you say ZAINAB CIGE, and Ileeye , you are blemspheming. that is wrong! SALAD DERBI is the coolest and most remembered and loved somali singer. Qabrigii Jaceeylka without him is nothing. and also shows you are all kids cos originally SALAD was the main actor and none can even put the energy, the emotions and the sweet voice he put in that RIWAAYAD. thanks to god , he was here in Minneapolis and entertained us. I think SANGUB, ZAINAB and SALAD should get togather and re-do that concert for the young lost ones here just to remind them of the old good days we had.

my favorite somali singers are the oldies from Waaberi and Radio Mogadishu.
I love listening to Qaraami of MAGOOL, KULUC, DHUULE, TUBEEC , Gaceyte, Osmaan Gacalo, Salad derbi and mooghe.

For females , i think that MAGOOL is the best somali female singer and has the most beautiful voice. She also holds the record for most songs.
Then comes maandeeq ( VOICEWISE ) and ZAHRA AHMED, FAADUMO QAASIM.
I think am doing injustice for not mentioning HIBO and KHADRA and AASHA ABDOOW. these divas have entertained us for ages and we should all appreciate.
it's sad that some young generations talk about primo and zainab laba dhagax...beleive me, though am not putting them down, they are nothing compared to these giants like MAGOOL and MAANDEEQ.
THEN MARYAM MURSAL, MY FAVORITE AND GREAT DIVA.

for male somali singers withou doubt and confusion, the greatest is MOHAMED SULEEMAAN TUBEEC. my favorite is CAJABEEY CAJIIBEEY AND XAAWO. GUFAACO, HAWEEYA, RIYO IYO RUUN.
I LOVE TUBBEC WHEN HE SINGS SONGS OF OTHER SINGERS LIKE SABAB KALEE HA MOODINE (HIBO), RAFAAD NOQOTAY(HIBO), MUUNISO ( MAGOOL ) AND OTHERS.

Hassan Aden SAMATAR is the most popular and he is very likable. i like listening to all his songs, new ones and old ones. the one that i like the most is CAADA SOO BAXDIYO CAAD IYO HILAAC CIRKOO WALAC YIRI UBAX CIIRIYO HILAAC....waah waah.
I ALSO LIKE WARDHEER, GUULEED, GODOB.
these are awsome treasures. then BALADWEYNE AND HUBUROOW are just like a movie u r watching/

OMAR DHUULE, SALAAD DERBI, ABDI TAHLIIL, KULUC, ABDINAASIR, OMAR NUUR CABDULLE, BEERDILAACSHE, AND OTHERS.

I AM LISTENING TO AHMED AWAD RABSHA AND MOHAMED JAAMAC JOOF NOW AND MAN , AM I ENJOYING THEM.

Sheekh Abdi

When you said above 25 you were damn right. It is because somali music born in 1950s,grew up in 1960s, reached it peak in 1970s and came its middle age in 1980s. Unfortunately it died in 1990s and buried in 2000s.

And about discriminating part, Well dude, look what those youngesters wrote down!. I nearly vomited when one of them said "Juba is my favorite'. If it is not the free and and the free choice, i would put that person in death row. And wrost of tall some people get the nerve of mentioning "qabrigii jacaylka" play when in fact they didn't mention the great singer of all times--Salaad Mohamed Shardi--salaad darbi.
To mention few classic and hits of all time that artist Salad have, let me name a few:

1-Ceer buur kuu yaalaay cenykiisa leedee.

2-Beeni raad ma leh dheelaloow run ma moodeyn.

3-Kaalay deeqo kaalay kaalay(isaga iyo magool)

4-Libaax duqoobay ari jirka orgi ula ekaayeey.

5-Ila dadaal ila dadaal danta heygu xumaynine(oo sulfa qaadey markii dambe).

Let's be honest somalis. ok?.

I personally, don't have one single fovarite but i do have a lot of them. in fact i do give credit every singer. my fovorite songs are;

1-kuu imi inaabtoow waxaad oranse mooyee(maryan mursal ciise).
2-Ila tali waxgaradoow ma erkaan diraayeey ( ahmed Rabso).
3.Faras( Abdi tahliil warsame).
4. Ceer buur ku yaalay (slaad darbi).
5. dadka ururayoow isu tegey dhamaan (khadra daahir cige)
6. Hadii aan ku naawiley naqba waa la dhoowraa ee taa niyad geli oo soo noqnoqashada hayga moodin nacas nimo.
7. ma og tahay inaad iga garadaran tahay ( maandeeq).
8......................

Sheikh, sorry adeero but i have to gate crash your party. I like music too much to follow the under 25 rule.

Heres my list:
Sahra Ahmed
Ahmed mooge
Cumar dhuule
cabdinaasir macalin
magool
They just do it for me...pure marqaan music.

Maryan mursal- one crazy but very smart woman- a bit of a feminist, i like that.

Aweys khamiis nabuute- only on cd though..he sounds like adhi in real life.

Luul jeylaani- i just love banaadiri tunes.

Abdi qaadir jubba - his been arround 4 a long time. he got the voice, the lyrics and the brother is finnnnne. my no. 1

Saado Cali- the best somali singer ever, she really respects the crowd:)

Abdi jibaar al khaliiji and cumar shooli:):):) need i say more?

Guul band, okay may be they don't belong here. but thats some somali music with a difference- adds a lil flavour na mean.

peace and love

My one and only one special Somali song is a song by Salah Kasim, Allah Baraso Wa'ana. Very classic and it was because of my girlfriend then that I found out this song. One day I came over to her house and going through a lot of tapes she had, I discoverd this cassete underneath a cupoard. It was very old tape and the first song was Salah's and I kept playing it over and over again until my girlfriend was hooked and she too fell for it. Even though I don't play it as often as I used to but when ever I put that song into my tape player my soul, my mind goes off to an other world..I feel very human.the ryhtem, the lyrics, yes the lyrics, definetely a superp creation of words. Number one for me.

bye,

I am not sure how old I am... am I have to ashame to myself? I don't think so.. it's not my foult if my mom delivered under a tree in the middle of no-where in Somalia while rain was falling down heavily. So my mom used to tell me, whenever it rains, there is onother gu (year) for me. So, what I am asking to you is how many seasonal rain does Somalia has? probabily 3.... right, so my mom is still insisting that I am 45, but the reality is that number has to be divided by 3 so 25 would be fair to me and I am a borderline to take part this topic....

Though my favourite music is not the Somali music but I don't mine listening to MAGOOL, AASHO ABDOOW, M.SALEBAN, SAMANTAR, AHMADEEY ABUUBAKAR & A.NAAJI.

I love Classic music ... (Luciano Pavaroti and Andrea Bocelli are my favorites). I also enjoy Listening environmental music, Some African tribe music (esp.. Zulu songs), West African singers such as Bab Mal, Ali Fakatur, Y,Nur,.

I also like Blues and country music (I do not know why), but it happened that I listen to it very often.

I avoid listening to Hip-Hop and Doggy duggy stuff.

Peace and Prosperity

sometimes it shocks me when i see kids trying to be all that knowing about the somali music and still making some abhorable comments about somali musicians and artists.
The leasst you could do is seperate the good from the bad, the originals from the copycats.
The greatest somali singers are of the early classical ones from Radio Mogadishu and Radio Hargeysa, From Waaberi and the Somali National Theatre.
To me the greatest somali female singer is MAGOOL.
I like when ABDALLA NUURIDIIN OR AHMED HASSAN COWKE are about to play one of her tunes and Just started reciting the lyrics.
This is the one i will never forget...it was on early 1987 when the Barnaamijka xidigaha on the Somali TV was on and ABDALLA NUURIDIIN was the host and he poetically recited as an intro to one of MAGOOL's songs.. it went like this..

ILAAHAYOOW NIMAAN WAX OGEEYN HA CADAABIN...GABDHAHA HEESA KALA WACAN OO KALA WANAAGSAN ..CODKIYO IYO LUUQDU WAA CISI ILAAH KUGU CALMADAY..CODKII QURUXDA IYO CODKII DALKA MAAMADII FANKA MAGOOL WAXEEY TIRI....

for me, i think it's hard to say who is my favorite somali singer? i have tried to think about this and all i could come with is i love all of them. most of the time i listen to Hassan Aden Samatar. i think he is number one in everything. Yeah i agree with those who say MOHAMED SALEEMAAN and HALIIMA MAGOOL have the most beautiful voices but lately we haven't heard a new songs from them. I couldn't beleive me when i listened to some oldies by magool! Man she has an awsome sweet voice and i couldn't convince my friends from Mali that this lady is from somalia, they were like no we know her she is from SUDAN. but anyways i love MARYAM MURSAL and ZAHRA AHMED too. they too are exceptional specially MARYAN MURSAL..man i saw her one of here show in AFRICA FETE..every one somalis and majority of the audience who were all non somalis..were all dancing and cheering to her theatrical and beautiful voice. it was in New york..that day i was proud to be somali and i had a lot of african brothers and sisters just asking me to explain the meaning of the songs and i had to be creative since it was kind difficult to translate from somali poetry into english.
I also love OMAR DHULE ..my allah bless his soul..he is great and i also like his daughter. she too has a talent..my last somali show was in ohio with SALAD DERBI..that night i had a hook up since all the guy was singing was about love and people beleived that the guy was some kind of ROmeo..they told me he had some crazy love affair and all his songs are about that and i listened to them carefully and beleive me i felt it. I also been told he is the real QABRIGA JACEEYLKA MAIN MAN...so you go ad figure it but he is like Mohamed saleebaan voicewise...
i love KHadra daahir too plus nimco yaasiin, maandeeq, hibo, nakruuma cos i saw them all in here in north america.
that is about it.

I WAS LISTENING TO AN OLD SOMALI TAPE..SME OF THE SONGS ARE AS OLD LIKE 1958...WOW...I CAN EVEN HEAR SOME FAMILIAR r&b TUNES FROM THESE SONGS....

MAGOOL, HIBO AND MATYAM MURSAL ARE THE ONES SINGING HERE ...SPECIALLY THERE IS THIS SONG BY MAGOOL AND SHE GOT THE SWEETEST AND MOST RYTHMIC VOICE HERE////
OGOOW KAS CAANO GALEEN KAL MALAHAA LA YIRAA

MEANS IT'S DEEP SOMALI THAT I CAN'T EVEN TRANSLATE INTO ENGLISH///// SO LET'S LEAVE IT LIKE THAT//////

HIBO IS ALSO GOOD AND VIBRANT HERE.
AS USUAL MARYAM MURSAL IS AMAZING
THE MEN OSMAN GACALO, MOHAMED ADEN, OMAR DHUULE AND MOHAMED KULUC ARE ALL GREAT

PEOPLE HAVE DIFFERENT TASTES AND I AM GLAD WE ARE ALL LISTENING TO SOMALI MUSIC AND WE SHOULD SINCE THAT IS THE ONLY WAY TO KEEP OUR CULTURE...I WAS LOOSING IT SINCE MOST OF THE TIME I LISTEN TO WHITE FOLKS MUSIC BUT AGAIN MUSIC IS UNIVERSAL

I ALSO RECOMMEND YOU TO CHECK THE MUSIC OF YUSUF ISLAM.CAT STEVENS....
MY FAVORITE SONGS ARE MOONSHADOW,PEACE TRAIN AND WILD WILD WORLD....
