I haven't been using the internet for a long time but since i've started,i have realised how much we have lost ourselves as Somali/Muslim people. Some of the discussion topic are absolutely disgusting,i mean half of you people talking about screwing this and smoking that? The majority of you came to these westernised countries only a few years ago and now you have gone worse than the native western people. Why do you feel the need to act in these ways? That topic page about girls being virgins,do i need to spell it out:Its called believing in Allah and having some self respect,is that hard enough to understand?Smoking[even though its tolerated],taking drugs, sleeping about, disrespecting each other, losing the religion. Why do we act like this, doesn't anyone want to go to heaven?
LET ME KNOW WHATS THE DEAL??!!

sista, i hear ya girl
i wasn't born in somalia either and i've been in the west for most of my life, but trust me when i tell ya that i'm 100% pure somali. i may not speak it all that well, i don't read or write it, i don't even have that many somali friends, but i'm proud of who i am, i know my roots and i'll never try to be anything that i'm not.
its sad when i see young somali guys and girls calling to each other by names like larry, or janet. or they're pronouncing thier original somali names with western accents.who are they trying to impress?
i think everyone of them is in some sort of race trying to see who can be the most westernized.
and if they continue in that direction, then all of them will come out as the loser!!!
peace
i'm out

Hello all;
I was not born in Somalia and I never lived there. My father is Somali but my mother is Swedish. I speak and write Somali FLUENTLY- afterall waa afkieyga. What really angers me is when I see young Somalis-saying they don't speak somali! HOW!!! What did their mother/father speak with them? An some of them have only been in the West for 10 years? How can someone forget how to read/write their language?
Don't loose your culture because the west will NEVER accept you as one of them.

Fish & chips[LOL],sista i see ur definately from the UK.But all this fish&chips V refs business its getting somewhat out of hand, don't u think so?I know what u mean about most ppl thinking that fish ppl r messed up,but they're worse than us,we've never been 2 Somalia! So thats kinda our excuse??
To Maysa:
Stay proud of who u r sista, even if ppl try 2 put u down because u may not speak Somali all that well, ignore them.I mean instead of disrespecting u they should offer 2 help u out.Oh and the nicknames, well i'm sure you've heard as many as i have, pretty sad ones if u ask me.And pronouncing a name like Khadra as Kadra[in a westernised manner],heard it all too offer.
To Karlin:
U know there r some ppl who have parents who do speak 2 them in Somali but they dont use the language themselves. Some ppl do it because they r simply not proud of their identity, others do it because they find the language hard.Me personally i'm trying 2 learn how 2 read & write Somali myself but its not my fault that i cant,i've never been 2 Somalia, never attended a Somali school,so how was i expected 2 learn it as a child?I'll never loose my culture, even though i was born in the UK,i know its not my home, never has been, never will be!Somalia is always the place i class as "home".
Last,but not least,to Hebel:
LOL@@@@@Once again,u think i'm ready 2 leave my family & start one ov my own??Hahaha-Somehow i dont think so.Gimme a few more years 2 live as a bachelorette then i'll settle down.
Once again maximum peace & respect 2 each & every1 ov u 4 taking ur time 2 check out my topic page.

i didn't say that i didn't know how to speak somali, i said that i don't know how to speak it as well as i should. i can carry on a conversation with anybody without ever uttering a word of english, not once.i want to be able to speak it in the exact same way my grand parents ,and my parents speak it. i'm just not at that level yet.>thats what i meant by not speaking it as well as i should be.
another thing, i never forgot how to read and write it because i was never taught in the first place. its not something i'm proud of, but i'm doing something about it. i'm learning now.
so please don't judge others and don't judge me.cause you don't have all the facts and you don't know everybody's situation.
and another thing, i don't accept the west, so i'm not waiting around for them to accept me.frankly, i don't care much for the ways of the west.
peace

Thank u very much walaalo 4 ur input on my topic, its people like u who make me stay strong and keep the faith in my people. There are some days when I just want to give up on my fellow Somali's and just not bother with them but I know that we still have many TRUELY GENUINE SOMALI people in our race. I love my people but I wish that we could just be ourselves and not act like others, Whites, Jamaicans, Latinos, Asians, etc. We should be proud of ourselves, our culture, our names[instead of choosing silly nicknames], and our religion. In the UK we do have many loose Somali people but I have heard[just heard, I am not quoting anyone] that the US Somali population are much worse. I seem to be believing that more and more each day. Its really sad because everyone is loosing there identity and the faith in ALLAH[SWTA]. Once again I'd like to thank u and everyone else 4 their input on my topic. takbeer...allahu akbar,

assalamu alaikum ma dear brothers and sisters,

first and foremost i pray that this message reaches you in a state of constant remeberence and fear of allah...

ma dear sister in islam, masha'allah and may allah increase us all in knowledge...you've made me so happy sister you really have amazed me...yes you're right our somali youth, and elders have completely lost their sense of identity...but what we have got to realize is no matter how hard we try to become westernized we will neva be one...see now trying to be what we can't is the thing to do...first it was the culture i've gotta be honest to me culture isn't nearly as important as being a true practissing muslim is...nothing comest close to believing in allah and his last messenger...

i really believe the problem starts with the parents doing their duties as parents...not taking the time to teach their children the values of being a practissing muslim and a good person overall...our parents are bussy with how to eat qat and party...i honestly believe if our children were taught the deen at a young age we wouldn't have as much problems as we do today...but we (younger generations) can and if we try will probably make changes...and i say this with great enthusiasm if we eliminate the many of the factors that are destroying our community then we truly can make difference...this where we as muslims and mostly as somalis need eachother...

ohh boy i've said so much i apologize guys if i've taken up much of your time...pls do remember that allah sees what you do all the time...and there are two angels that record your deeds so pls do what's good and increase in ibadah may allah guide us and grant us jannah in the hereafter insha'allah

To sumaya and muslimah:
First and foremost I would just like to thank the pair of you for ur much appreciated input.
Sumaya abaaye I understand that there are many sisters[and brothers] who need help and guidance but too often they choose to ignore the words of the wise. I try all the time to make my friends realise that a lot of what they do is wrong but do they listen? Nope. Insha allah though we shall not give up and we shall continue to help our lost brothers/sisters.Also we shall help ourselves because none of us live perfect lives.

Muslimah abaaye thank you very much and the compliment goes back to you. I know what you mean about calling ourselves muslims but many of us dont practice Islam correctly, we simply say we're Muslims, instead of taking actions. However, there is one thing that you mentioned which I cannot agree with you on. We cannot put all the blame on the children's parents because we all make our own minds up. Obviously our parents do have an impact on us and the way in which they brought us up but you cannot say its the fault of the parents. A child may be brought up in a respectable muslim household but if he/she turns out to be a crackhead can you blame his parents? At the end of the day it is his/her decision on what they decide to become in life. I feel you so much when you say that Islam is more important than culture because on the day of Judgement I do not think that "being a Somali" will take you to jannah. I mean respect your culture and hold onto it but do not let it take over your life and get in the way of your deen. I have run out of time now but insha allah I shall be back soon.

May Allah guide us all to the right path in life and may we all realise[sooner rather than later] than Islam is the key to heaven.

Hey muslimah, hi once again sister. I think we both agree now. The parents do have a major impact on their children, I mean most of us follow our parent's ways, good or bad! U know Keinaan aswell, dont we all! I know what u mean about him being talented and leading the way for many of us. Lets just hope he's the first in a long line of successful young Somali people to do their thing and represent us!
May Allah guide us all in the correct direction and may we all be blessed with paradise.
