Yes, thanks to SomaliNet Communuity, Somalis took advantage of the internet at its infancy!
| | Unrecorded Date There is a story I saw on T.V about a Somali Kid called Hassan.. which lingers in my Mind. The picture of this Kid is soo engraved on my mind. A ten year old kid who was starving and walked for several days with his mother in search for a feeding shelter. When they finally got there he was too weak and fell to the ground. His body was soo severely dihydrated that he could not eat and digest any food.. he was too weak to absorb any nutriets. He was too weak to brush away the flies that were all over his face,, there are many other kids like him. How can anyone be indifferent to their suffering. What have we done ? what are we doing ? what do we plan to do ? should we sit back and point fingures ?

| | Unrecorded Date PaPa Now that's a damn good question. I believe that we (all of us with the mens) need to start preparing to go back to Somalia now (that means saving money and organizing). Somalia needs political stability and it needs new infrastructure that can support sustained economic growth. Those two things will lift the people who are now living in poverty out of it. I too am haunted by the same images that I saw when I went there during the famine in 92 / 93. Now it's happening again!!! I can't believe it. Well, actually I can believe it but I find it no less disturbing. Anyway, I'm with you buddy.

| | Unrecorded Date I think we have to start a way to help the poor innocent people whom have been stuck the non sense shame war that took our Country so we need to start to help and make the kids of this generation better than ours, we have to open schools and educate people and make them understand that we have the right to say "NO" to all these loosers so called Warlords

| | Unrecorded Date Papa, Every success was started by one individual then it expanded. When I saw these extremely disturbing pictures, I felt that I had a responsibility. I decided to do something about it and I came up with an idea which I shared with my friends. We decided to collect everything we could get, cash and kind, give it to the Red Cross or any other official charity organization and ask them to deliver it specifically to that area and get us pictures of the people receiving the aid, and we designated some one to be in charge. Now we are in the process of collecting the donation, if you wanna contribute anything I can tell you how and where or you can implement the same at your end. May the Almighty Allah give them relief.

| | Unrecorded Date assalamu alaikum warahmah all, papa you're so right it's time that we somalis changed our ways and started to concentrate on how to rebuild our country... I for one have given up on ma country ever getting on its feet again...cuz i think that with the way the ppl are it can never be back to the way it once was...after ten yrs of civil war i thought ppl would learn a listen and stop the sickness that destroyed us and our country (qabyaalad) but that didn't happen at all, will it happen i don't think so..and probably will never stop...unless we, the younger generations that have grown up here change the old somali way of thinking and try to come with solutions on how to rebuild our country... enuff said i guess...i'll see what i can do here with the community that's here (where ilive)...see what i can collect in cash and perishable goods... mad mac man you kinda cool...but i still gotta wonder about you...i haven't let ma guard down all the way i still got some doubts about you...you know you could be father michaels nephew for all i know, or even son...lol! i'm teasing you man take it easy now ok may allah help us in our plans to rebuild our homeland insha'allah...wassalamu alaikum warahmah

| | Unrecorded Date I try to Sleep but the pain is too deep, How can they dare to say they dont Care, The Warload knows No bound All he wants is a Crown, Violence is in the Air Bullets are Everywhere, They Kill them with Hunger So that they can Conquer, When Peace becomes a Stranger we all are in danger, Cant they see War is the Enemy Violence is not the Remedy, Give Peace a Chance Let the Children dance, Lets make a deal So we can begin to heal, If Allah they fear the end is Near, What will they say come judgement day, For what Crime did they the children die, I cry for thee children of Somalia. /

| | Unrecorded Date Wow RealDeal, I feel your pain man, and I like the poem!!! I think, we need to be all proactive about finding solutions for Somalia. Muridi, gave one excellent example of ways each one of us can contribute, I am sure there are a thousand other ways. We need to be creative in seeking solutions, and network with people back home to get a feel and feedback of how best to serve them. No action is too small. The biggest challenge is asking ourselves each morning if we have done something for our country and the community we are part of now. Dogged presistence, patience and ignoring the nay-sayers should be the order of the day. Talk is cheap, action is required, and as we can see from the example of Muridi, we can all do something for Somalia. Let us each take responsibility and a commitment to do something. We owe it to those who were not given the same opportunity like you and me.
