Yes, thanks to SomaliNet Communuity, Somalis took advantage of the internet at its infancy!
     | Unrecorded Date asalama alaykum muslims, many somalis talk about how to get our people and our country back together. it always seems that we have the WRONG approach of it. many somali muslims today advocate an islamic state...and/or tribal state. i very much agree. but it is a romantic thought -- not an honest or real one. we have to face couple stuff; a: not all somalis are in the same group of belief system... this is one that we do not face most of the time...and wishfully will it away. however, the real fact is that not all somalis are in the same belief system -- we never were...and we probably never will be. while we are all muslims -- somalis will not be sectless. while aqwaanul muslimiin...thrives through somalia today -- and while wahabis literally have a site/community in every city, somalis still remain all factions of all sorts of sects...including sunni, suffism, and the new shi`ites. so, whatever government we choose for our people -- must be one that will assure its citizens of equality of all belief. i, personally, believe that is islam. however, since all the different sects are claiming "islam"...and are intrepreting islam in a different light/way, it is not all soothing. history records prophet muhammad helping jews and christians live the land and be part of the people...and protect them and help them be part of the society in economic, thought, action, etc. and even thought they paid jizya(special tax) -- it was still much much better than most of "democrats" today around the globe. as we see in this forum, there are somali christians -- and we have seen a somali jew(yohanis?) therefore, all those somalis who are not muslims...must have a right and a protection in the land. also, the travellor must have a protection in the land. and if we are to have a state, we had better have an economical frienship with those states that could be market for us...such as italy(banana), arabia(animals), african countries(rice, beans, all agricultural needs,)...and many other states who could be fruitfull for our growthment. also, since somalia is a beautiful land -- we will be hammered with truism...and that could be yet another fruitful for our growth. therefore, all non-somalis must have a right of protection in the land. otherwise, we will be boycotted from the globe...and we will be back to square one. b: not all somalis are in the same group of cultural system... believe it or not, we are not all "the same" that we sound to be. yes, our majority people -- such as tribes of hawiyya, isaaqq and darood...are similar cultured people. however, we are far from being all similar. we have the jareer, the baajuun, the barawaani, etc etc etc. who have different culturals, etc. and when and if we have a state, those somalis will return to the land...and they shall have the right to return to a country that they can have a space of culture...UNLIKE the last state we had...which virtually oppressed these people...by depriving them of their culture. they must be citizens like all somalis...and should be citizens...regardless of where they are today or what country they became "citizens" of(LIKE the jews and israel...turks and turkey, etc etc etc) c: when the push comes to shove, we all somalis... the world doesn't care if we are somali muslims or darood or baajuun or jareer or barwaani -- we are somalis. therefore, that shall always be a fondation for us -- we are SOMALIS regardless of our beliefs and cultures and tribes. and equal right for all somalis must be established and there shall be no discrimination of sex, color, religion, race, etc -- legally. no doubt, we all have prejudice...and sometimes it can have possitive in prejudice...but we should make sure our government doesn't have one against any kind of our people. *********************************************************************** so, what should our government be? a government which gives the human being the CHOICE to be. to be muslim, christian, jew, pagan...heterosexual, homosexual, eunuch, a uni-sex, WHATEVER the human being claims to be. it shall be; "you have your beliefs and i have mine -- and there is a god" without "you shall believe what i believe". that is the task of the just in the qur`an. pharoah and `aad and thamud were so proud as to try to enslave people into their own understanding. such powerful people...who were more in advance and strength in wealth and children...failed time and time again in the 'discrimination' cup. their agression and mischief in the land -- of oppression and spread of evil...caused them to be banished from the face of the earth. with such government, as i stated above, it will be flourished in the land -- and sooner than we realize, we will be more powerful than the ridiculeous super powers...who are constantly punished with natural wrath...because they oppress and scheme and mischief and spread evil in the land. with such government, god will see it...as the destination for men -- because they practice the first gift he has given the humans; the power to choose. this choosing always must be one that is FREELY done...not through oppression...or exilation. i will leave this with qur`anic verse; [33:72] We have offered the responsibility (freedom of choice) to the heavens and the earth, and the mountains, but they refused to bear it, and were afraid of it. But the human being accepted it; he was transgressing, ignorant. therefore, wheather right or wrong, the human being must always have the right to his amaanah(freedom of choice) -- and god shall be the judge of him. we should not forcibly decide anyone's faith...nor should advocate it. we should talk to people -- and do a ducwah(teaching)...and not oppress the non-muslims. when the human being is oppressed against his godly given right, god intervines and oppresses the oppressor. such parables are in the qur`an -- of pharoah, haman, etc etc etc. god bless! peace and love - ahmad!

If you had any knowledge of the quran you would not have even attempted to do what you did above. How can you quote an Ayah on one hand, and at the same time condone homosexuality on the other hand. "You are very weird, you support evil acts like homosexuality in one sentence, and then you turn around and say the supper powers are punished for their evil acts !!!!" super powers -- along "muslims" and the whole world is punished ALL the time...because they oppress god's creations...such as HOMOSEXUALS. homosexuals, in the time of the prophet, worked at his house. such is the religion of god. now, today, homosexuals are beheaded in saudi arabia(THE LAND where the prophet lived). how ironic is that??? adulterers are excuted/beheaded in saudi arabia(as well). women are locked in homes...and girls are killed through pharoanic-circumsition. where do people get all these "laws" from? from arabic wicked cultures -- that CAME from jewish mystism and christianity rule. you said; "You have gone to the extent of trying to interpret the quran taking a Verse out of context and even adding your own "freedom of Choice" line in that intepretation." once again, it seems it's YOU who is ignorant about qur`an and islam. the word in the verse; "amaanah" is "responsibility"/"the freedom of choice" -- god trusting them to have ENOUGH intelligence to choose between good and evil. everyone else denied except the human. i have seen translators who translate it as "trust" -- it so ridiculeous that it makes me laugh. with "trust" in the verse -- the phrase would make NO sense whatsoever. they translate it because the word also means; "trust" -- one, however, always need to be CAREFUL of the context to make sure what some arabic words mean. yes, translators always have trouble with some words. like the word "khalifah" in 2.30 -- it clearly means; "successor"(one who will be in earth...after god finished it -- and created it.) many people translate this to be "adam" when it reffers to satan. another word is "daraba" in 4.34 which talks about "striking out"(kicking them out) -- many oppressors translate it as; "beat them"...this is because the word daraba also means; "beat" as it means "strike" among ANOTHER nine translations. yusuf ali translates as; "beat them(lightly)" hahahaha! there is no "lightly" in the verse -- he knows god would never advocate any kind of violence...so to make his concious easy...he adds; "lightly" to make him feel better. wow wow! peace - ahmad!

| | Unrecorded Date Ahmad I can't really comment on the Islamic angle of your thesis, but from a practical standpoint your logic is hard to refute. You seem to see things with a clarity other people lack. You would be a great addition to the team. Please consider it. Confused Don't confuse tolerance for advocation. Saying that you should allow Christinas and Jews to live amongst you in peace does not mean you are advocating Christianity or Judaism. It means that everyone has a right to their beliefs. Forcing someone under threat of State action to become a Moslem is not advocated in the Qur'an (that much I do not) and Islam has an outstanding, ancient history of tolerance (Saudi Arabia not withsatanding) towards other beliefs which is part of its appeal. Allah wants people to love him - you can't force people to love Allah at the point of a gun.

Ahmed did not advocate homosexuality per se, he said the Qur'an doesn't forbid it or advocate violence against those who practice it. There's a big difference. You need to learn to live and let live. In Somalia words can kill, you should know that. Spout off at the wrong time there like you do here and you could end up with your brains all over your shirt. So I would advise you learn to open your mind and tread a little lightly before you go back and realize too late you developed some bad western habits (like talking a lot of smack).
