We kicked their asses over and over. The only reason we didn't fight to the finish was because our government quit. You're fucking high if you think for two minutes that we weren't ready to finish the game. Let me give you a few REAL quotes: SPC Shawn Nelson "I think we should have stayed til the end and completed the mission." SGT Randy Ramaglia who was shot and being loaded on a MEDEVAC helicopter. The MEDAC said he felt sorry for him and Ramagliy said "Man, you should feel sorry for them, cause we whipped ass." Let's take a look at the body count. What did the Gedirs loose that day 1,000 KIA. We lost 19, twenty if you count the Malaysian soldier who was also killed with us. I'm going back to Somalia and I have no fear whatsoever from the Gedirs - a bunch of rank amateurs.

The two things I am passionate about are Somalia and the US Army. US Army soldiers are, in my opinion, the most professional and compassionate in the world. I've served with the US Army in Haiti, Bosnia, Somalia and Desert Shield / Storm and have always been proud to do so. That having been said I had no right to call Sweetgirl a dumb skirt. America forces use night vision devices to shot with at night times and with out that device Somalian took advantage of them and unfamiliar enviroment.that is why marines brought the new way of fighting called MARINES OPERATION URBAN training(mout).American military fought in one urban war, hue city in vietnam. so this rangers were not familiar with urban war and also they never wanted kill non cobatants like most of the somalis were doing, most of the people were killed by stray bullets from their own somalis. in that book the author don't say it was Americans victory nor Somali's, but somalis lost thousand of people. most of the American soldiers were killed coz of their generosity, most of the somalis were using the kids as shield and who will shot someone with a kid and Ak47, the biggest riffle somalis were using was old ass RPG from Russia, danm Americans were using the latest model of weapons, i am not to trying to down grade my country but some people piss me off just talking coz they can, y dont u say the truth, do u think i am proud of the US rangers killing my peoiple , hell no, but what i dont wanna hear is Habar gidir bet America, danm . shut up and put something on ur mouth, one more comment that book says somalis are good fighters but no technology and ticnics, and jaylane pls next time write in english coz i bearly read somali

| | Tuesday, September 26, 2000 - 11:28 pm Mohamed I don't want to correct you here, but there's a few inaccurracies to your story. Let me review them here. First, the raid launched on 3 October was not targetted at Aideed. It was targetted at Mohamed Hassan Awale and Omar Salad. Those two indivuals were captured and held on an Island off the coast of Ksimayu for about two months. They were not traded for Durant. Durant (the captured pilot) was released some 10 days after his capture because Aideed feared a rescue operation with the now heavily reinforced Rangers would be his undoing. The Haber Gedir were already heavily blooded and had used most of their munitions in the fight on 3/4 October. It was because of this exhaustion of resources that the Hawadle attacked them in Lamber Afr on 25 October. Rangers, as all of our light infantry, are well trained in MOUT. Most of the soldiers killed were killed at crash site two where there were only six guys (four of whom were badly injured in the crash) who were overun (in little Tokyo), the guys killed on the lost convoy which got hammered and a few guys moving onto crash site one. Once the battle was joined, after the first two hours, we did not lose another man until PFC Martin was killed moving in with the QRF. SGT Cornell Houston also died of wounds he received during the move in with the QRF as well as one Malaysian soldier. After the fighting really picked up, using woman and children as shields was no longer effective. We simply shot them and then shot the men hiding behind them. As the QRF moved down National Street that night, if something was alive they killed it. While you are correct about the NVGs, at the end of the day it didn't make any difference. After a few hours the SNA didn't make much of an effort to overun the surrounded troops, so not having night vision turned out to not be a big deal.

Mohamed (whom I have E-Mailed before and hence am sure because of the address that he is a US Marine) joined the Corps for his own reasons that have nothing to do with Somalia. There's no conflict of interest here. The marines are not going back to Somalia. You need to take a chill pill dude. Now, I did not say they indiscrimantly killed woman and children. You are taking that out of context. Woman and children should be safely tucked away in their houses when the shooting starts. If you start using them as spotters (which the SNA admits happened) and human shields (which it denies but the facts belie the denial) they're going to get killed. Soldiers in combat are trying to survive, to kill before they are killed. If you think for a New York minute that any soldier, from anywhere, is going to sit back and let someone take pot shots at him from behind some woman, then think again. And take it easy on the brother about his grammar. He's working in a foreign language. Your grammar may be better but your common sense sure isn't. You need to get a copy of Black Hawk Down by Mark Bowden, as Mohamed recommended. It's easily the best written account available which explains what happened and why. It's also an easy read.

They were the Abgal, the Haber Gedir, The Murosade and the Hawadle. Three of those four supported the American presence in strong terms. Now please don't tell me I'm wrong. I was there. I drove through the different neighborhoods. We also had the full support of the Rahanweyne, The digil, most of the Darood (minus the Ogadeni). Really the only troublemakers were the Haber Gedir, the Sheykal and some of the Dir. The majority of the people supported us. Now, for the AC-130. It doesn't drop bombs. Let's get our facts straight. It has cannon on board. These are precision weapons. They were used to destroy the authorized weapon storage sites maintained by the SNA after 5 June. If any woman and children got killed by the AC-130 it was because they were hanging out around heavy weapons after hostilities began between the SNA and the UN/US. Not a very smart thing to do. Fortuinately, that wasn't the case. The only people killed by the AC-130 were SNA militiamen. Now, as for rules of engagement. I'm going to tell you a little first hand story my friend. The SNA was attacking us with mortars. Without going into the how, we determined where one of these crews was living and planned a raid against them. Our higher headquarters, CENTCOM, who slept safe and sound every night, said no joy to our plan because of fear of collateral damage. Then we said we'll stand off at night and blow it up with gunships. Nope, there could be non-combtants living there. Every plan we presented got shut down. We had to catch the crews in action before we could engage them. With a 60mm kneecap mortar do you know how hard that is?? Esspecially in the city. After Abdi House that was it. The reason there was a lot of collateral damage is because during chance engagements where things went wrong, the Haber Gedir would mob the streets like idiots, threatening the troops and providing support to militiamen.
