Walaalayal hear me out on this one!

As we put a close to the tenth chapter of the "Somali Saga", we can account for no progressive movement what so ever to this day. What is happening? why is there no progress at all? whether in the motherland or abroad, wherever you find yourselves?

It amazes me to look back at our lost decade and feel no sense of closure. Usually when a year passes by or for that matter when ten years passes by I tend to look back and reflect on positive happenings and negative ones, and find a way to overcome or ameliorate those negative hurdles. I feel no sense of closure....

Yes, there is alot to be done but I also feel that I am caught in the middle of a twister. This whole uprooting experience has been that of confusion and displacement. I haven't experienced the ill-effects of a twister but one succumbs to the power of the wind (tribalism) and is spun by the force (more tribalism subdivided into sub-clan levels).

The reason that I've posted this is to see others my age [between 20-29] and their attitudes towards the past ten years. Also how committed they feel to their surrounding Somali communities?
And how far you've gone to get involved in those communities?

Peace

I hear you loud and clear ! The last decade will go down in somali history as the lost decade. More somalis died in this decade than any other time in somali history. The emotional scar will be there for ever, like an ugly stain on a beautiful cloth. The impact of this development will be debated for decades to come. As we come of age those who are now in the above age group which we may refer to as "Generation Exile" find themselves at an impasse.

At the height of the civil-war and the famine that ensued, there was a point where almost five hundred somali children were dying everyday.
They have destroyed a whole Generation of Somali children.

It is realy difficult to believe that there are people who have remained indifferent to the cries of the Somali Nation, and have denied the children of somalia their inalienable rights to live in dignity, free from fear of terror.

They are busy spending money to buy Arms and fighting each other and killing innocent children.

The enemy is not the other Qabil, the real enemy is poverty, hunger, disease, and lack of education.

What Can Generation Exile do ?

It will definately be a long and difficult struggle, however, this generation need to get together at the grassroot level and devise a plan of action. Yes there are obstacles, but, dont focus on the obstacles, stick to your vision and look at the big picture.

Your motherland needs you now more than ever.

The only way that evil will triumph is for the good people to sit back and do nothing.

To my 2 brothers,i feel ya,and i hear ya loud and clear.

I don't know maybe i'm the only one ,one night i heard that that ethiopian soldiars crossed the somali border and this emptyness came over me that we could be lost forever, that maybe our dreams of going back home one day won't be realized that we will be lost forever in this world of terror.that night i cried eventhought i didn't want to,i don't know,I was the kid who always use to sing the somali anthem with bride when the other children were sayin "ii sacbiya" i would say "usacbiya" i love my homeland with unconditional love,i want to get this tatoo with
DALKA,DADKA,DIINTA .i'll give my life for peace in somalia cause were ever we may life somalia is our homeland and we got the brave somali blood running through our body.

i would say young brothers help your self to help your brothers in need ,we are somali.

I ask all the warring factions "PEACE PLEASE"
we have been waiting 12 years for peace i think that it's time cause we lost all that we loved in life and i hope that we learn from this hard lesson.

peace a word with a meaning.

Peace all:

Thanks for your well-thought out responses. We must move forward, we all understand that at this point, but the question is who is the maverick who should start a movement. I am pretty sure there are numerous organizations out there who have an agenda but are they really unified "one voice, one people"?

As Tariq accounts his feelings when hearing about the "Ethiopian" involvement in Somalia one can only feel a sense of powerlessness more so brought by shame. How could that be possible?

Our parents and ancestors have instilled such great pride in us, its time for us to rise and do something.

I'm willing to take part of a movement to bring peace in somalia but first we should try to unite the somali's living abroad so that we can make a stronger fist against the injustice that is being do to the the Somali people all over the world especially those in somalia,we have lost 2 generations to this war and more to jaad.
I think it's time for some action.I my self live in Holland a place were most of our ppl talk about peace but don't take any actions the only organisations doing good are those who are United by our relegion,we should try to rise over our lil'differsences and work towards our common goals like bring peace in our homeland and uniting the ppl living abroad.we have waited so long for peace and to bring peace you have to fight.
are we willing to take action or are we just talking about peace?

I agree with you a 100% walaal. That has been my thinking too. First start from the community you are right now then expand to those back home. It seems as though people have a goal which is to rebuild Somalia but what is the point if you rebuild an infrastructure and the people who are meant to run it are "dysfunctional" in a way, you know. Having been in exile for ten year and being introduced to different cultures our Somali brothers and sisters have become acculturated to the ways of the West which at times I feel have become irreversible.... some of them are at the "point of no return". Their sense of religion and pride for culture has diminished totally.

So yes I do agree that one needs to clean their own backyards before they can go out and affect change in a larger scale.

I life in Holland and i will try to start a community center were the youg somali's can meet and exchange their views and idea's to bring peace and we can work on that further.

To all my brothers and sisters

Happy to see young brilliant somalis, this is a great place to hang around and exchange
idea's. The only place so far where intelligent and patriotic somalis are talking about the national
interest of the people. We are today in a very bad situation and even if you can permit me the
UGLIEST shape of our entire existence as a nation, our motherland is run by a bunch of outlaws,
our young generations don't have enough education or no education at all, the security of our
borders is often violated by outsiders with personal interest, the land itself is full toxic garbage,
our women are raped and use as a slaves by foreign, our so-called intellectuals and professionals
are working abroad for other nations. In common sense basis is this a nation that can survive and
strive? our common logic will say no. So the answer has to come from us, the somali people,
because without us or this generation the future is dark and inemagible. We've got a whole
territory for us, a place where we can build our own laws, protect our own values and culture, we
are blessed my brothers and sisters, there's people today without land and no sense of
nationhood, we must sacrifice our own life in order to protect the land of our ancestors, THE
FUTURE IS US OR NO FUTURE AT ALL.

Lets not repeat the same mistake OF our fathers, lets use our own blood even to kill those mother
fucker warlords, we need their heads, the head of AIL MAHDI, HUSSEIN AIDID, MOHAMED
EGAL, ABDILLAHI YUSSUF, GENERAL MORGAN, ALI AFRAH etc...

ASSASSINATION IS THE ONLY SOLUTION.

We need real revolutionary, with higher principle, allot of our heroes are death for us, look those
who sacrificed their own life's during colonial time, how many of our heroes are kill by italians,
french, ethiopians, british, so many are dead for us. But the thing we must do is to clean and educate
ourselves, clean and become free of any kind of tribalism, no sense of clanism whatsoever, because the
principle of creating a nation is extremely higher and than our clan and sometimes if the
interest cross each other our own family must be second. whether we like it or not we are the generation of
reunification, because real revolution always start from outside, study Lenine, Trotsky, fidel
Castro, Che Gavera, Gandhi, Patrice Lumumba, Nelsom Mandela etc...
This great man's have either died, went to prison or stay in exile for long time all that for the interest of their own people, every somali
back home rather dead for the creation of their own nation instate of disease and famine.

But before going further, we all need to educate ourselves, understand the mentality of this
warlords, visit the country often, talk to real people i mean to mainstreans people, the poor, the
orphans, the students, injured, those without hope, because they are our suporters,
imagine brothers & sisters young people with no heroes, how they are going to love their country?
but people like us who have been everywhere in the world are well positioned to lead the people,
we cannot accept nor support a tribal leader, those warlord should be hanged,

ASSASSINATION IS NOW INEVITABLE.

We must organized OURSELVES and think as futur leader of the United States of Somalia

THE FUTURE BELONG TO US YOUNG XXX'X

Discussion is now open,
Peace to all somali revolutionaries.

Careful with the idea of "revolution". The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Revolutions tend to destroy more than they build. Witness your last one. That having been said, you are right about the warlords. Almost all of them are a bunch of greedy criminals - although I have to admit I have a certain empathy for General Galal. As I have stated in other parts of these pages I am going back in four years. I could sure use some help so young Somalis (or old for that matter) who are willing to take a chance and try to make a positive

I can't emphasize enough how much I share your concern. We all do. You know what I have considered your suggestion time and time again. The extinction of the warlords. But I don't thing that is a doable solution. Those figure heads do not have any control as much as those under them, who do their dirty deeds for them. A leader becomes a leader as a result of their supporters. So if they can be persuased that what they are being told is all bull crap! then only can you penetrate that country.

Change can only be introduced in a succint and planned fashion. The term i'm looking for is baby steps, moderation. Sometimes I wonder if any change will be effective at all because the people back home have gone through hell and back. Psychologically they have experienced stress brought by the civil unrest and environmental well its all about survival of the fittest. Everyone has a plan and there is no organization, nor a clear sense of "community".

I hope that these discussion can somehow lead us to positive direction.

Live by the sword die by the sword,, enough blood has been spilled in that country. I dont think the solution is too spill more blood. It would only lead to endless conflict. The real enemy is not the warload, the enemy is ignorance. If the masses are educated and told to reject the clanish mentality propagated by the warloads then we can make progress.

I feel all the things that you are saying, the revolution thing is very hard to achieve, you can kill ppl like "aidiid and morgan and cigaal" but there will still be chaos.
we should plan very carefully and take one lil'step at the time.start first by uniting ppl who are close to you, like the other young somalis in your neighberhood or try to even convince your own brother and sisters that things can't go on like that any more, try to make changes that will last, try to educate young somalis about there rich culture and history, and language.

Start peace organization were all the somalis who live in your town can come and share there ideas of bringing peace to our homeland, revolution isn't the way although it is very tempting to resolve all our problems with blood.

Some times the means justify the deeds, but lets try to find another solution.

peace and love.

OK, by now I've answered the "why I want to go back" about a million times. So I think you've probably read it somewhere. Now, obviously you are as obsessed as I am. And Sam seems fairly interested in going home too. And I know there's a bunch of others out there. There's strength in numbers. And think how useful a former American Army officer would be to your movement. I certainly have a better chance to leverage financial support in the form of aid projects than a non-American. I can also give you advice untainted by clan perspective - since I belong to no clan. Sam is of course correct. Violence begets violence. You will have to depend upon the power of persuasion and good deads. You also have to be able to protect yourself. In Somalia I'm sure you're aware the weak quickly become the victims. I might be useful in this capacity as well. So little sister, start organizing now. I'll be happy to help you. The whole world will be happier to see Somalia have a government - OK maybe not mafia scum bags or fish thieves, but everyone else.

wassalamu alaikum warahmah,

wow i'm impressed with ma fellow somalis masha'allah...may allah bless you for this...

i believe the only way somalia can get back on its feet is having ppl who are true muslims, god-fearing ppl...the only way we can have a country back is having an islamic gov't...

amm for now what can we do? probably a lot...i'm really not a politics person i don't care politics but i do wanna go back home someday insha'allah...probably retire there if it gets better by then...right now tho we can try to set up organizations for the youth...ma main concern is that our youth do not have a place where they can get together...and do recreational activities and help with whateva they may have problems with...otherwise we will definitely loose many kids to the kaafiriin...mad mac no offence intended here...just stating the truth

i've seen our elders fight over community orginizations...and it makes me sick...they only think about their interests and no one else's...to them it's all about the fundings the gov't gives subhanallah...we need to get some honest, god-fearing ppl to handle these issues...i'm sure we can do it since we'll seem to have these qualifications...let's stop the talk and do some actions aight! guys can ya'll let me know where you're locate it? maybe we're in the same areas and can establish something asap

Asalamu caleykum walaal!

Thank you for joining in the discussion, your concerns are definetely shared by all of us. I guess all we can do is to empower ourselves with Allah's blessings, education, perseverance, and all that is required to overcome this "curse".

My intention in posting this discussion is to reinforce the fact that we don't need to be labeled as the lost generation. I would like for all of us to do something whether on an individual scale or in a community scale. Let's stop the ignorance. The mentality of waiting until the situation of Somalia dies down is an unattainable goal. Help those around you before you can help the ones out of your reach.

My Somali brothers and sisters empower yourselves and know that your culture is seen through you, so please don't abuse the gift Allah has given you. Stand tall and proud knowing that you are a SOMALI.

To all partiotic brothers and sisters

Keep the fighting spirit alive and your care for motherland. One day all our desires will explore into real acyet to stand up for a real revolution -- not necessarily bloody one. Are we only the talking heads or serious revolutionaries? How mnay of us are really ready to leave everything they have and go the ground backhome, set up goals/ plans/vissions for the Somali people in the new millenium?. Let each one of us ask these questions before we go to the next stage.

To sister Muslimah

Wake up sister, stop mixing religion and politics or do you want Somalia to be Taleban state or something. Look what is happening to the women in Afghanistan. Do you really want the same faith for Somalis sisters?.

No thanks, religion is ok and our holly faith but it is for all the wrong purposes when it interferes with the daily lives of the people. Who does what, who wears what and son.

We are muslims, we have always been muslims and we want to be good muslims in the future too but to hell with those big bearded belly-tanks of the present day who try to monopolise our faith for their selfish political, economical interests.

Watch out for the political Sheik with the gun. He is not necessarily on a sacred Islamic mission, he might be up for the power as everybody else. I prefer those humble sheiks with the holly Koran and far away from political games, just like the good old days.

Why all these fanatic religious revivals among Somalis these days? Many times it feels that there is a new Islam born for Somalis only udring the last decade, and also we are the only muslims in the whole world. What is going on.

We are all true revolutionaries, so don't mislabel us and call us talking heads. This discussion page is meant to bring about attainable solutions for those living OUTSIDE of SOMALIA and what they can do to better themselves so that when it is time to go back we can all work cooperatively. Personally I don't know where you live but the Somali communities are literally dying and self-destructing without being in the motherland. All i'm saying is clean your backyard then go on and help your neighbor.
