Assimilation of behavior,identity,fashion,ideas,and systematic adoptation of the western civilisation has become part of our lives in America and the rest of European countries.Now is it our right to chooce these foreign culture and deny our own traditional culture that has been our essential identity and familiarity through out our generation and life span.I find myself compelled to dress accordingly to societies demand,expectations and naturalisations.It would be considered a strong collection of head to be rebellious and refuse these carefully deseigned adoptations,but it can also affect your psychic growth -in terms of always feeling an outcast!This could be excruciatingly painful.Perhaps not our right,but certainly our only choice.
American society has its flaws and merits.Its most greatest flaws would naturally be the amount of prejudices and divisions among its citizens.There is an issue of black and white.Upper class citizens and lower class citzens-regardless of the color in betwwen.and other minor inbalances that occur in global societies. The merits are cleraly visible.we have this overwhelmingly oppotinities and self enlightment and new exploration of a world we could never have imagined existed.A democratic society with no de-humanising aspects and lack of dictatorship domination.The merits are coun tless.But my question is where is the place of immigrants in this debate!Particularly Somali's.I have always found myself to be a long traveled merchant in a ship that travels across the world's sea and always coming in the middle of a pre-exisitance fueds of two parties.Black american citizens always have this pre-conceived notion that black and white should certainly not be associative.White,would not as boldly utter these phrases but their actions suggests-predictably similar to the their black counter parties!Now somalis i ask you this quetion!Where is your position in this soap drama series?How much do u agree in de-culturizing yourself and assimilating to western culture!How far do you think we can go to be considered another new developing community in a world where we hardly have a thing in common with.And is there hope for Africa,mostly Somalia!Would we take home our new adopted culture if......-if Somalia becomes a nation again.? |
