![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Friday, October 13, 2000 - 03:27 am Hi youngster I am also a young gentlewoman residing in London. however the query that you are debating about occurs nothing comparing it to other things that Somalia teenagers do e.g., Drugs,Alcohol,Crime, and unprotected sex or may I say sex they're not supposes to be having. They have no morals, which makes me wonder what are we are going to ending to be? what is sex before marriage? What is teenager pregnancy in the Somali community? What is freedom in our community? What happened to our culture, religion and most of our pride. The new generation is our light our future what will they end up as and how will the end up as Ps. dear sis and bro please ask your selves these questions tonight. Peace, Love and Hormone Take your selves and one another hibaq Ali (London)

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Friday, October 13, 2000 - 05:52 am Hibaq I don't think all Somali young girls do that, secondly let me give answer to my young sister realland and hana, well the reason you act more adult is many somali young experienced civil war, asylum issue, family problems, that makes young somalis more mature then the their English young people. peace love respect

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Friday, October 20, 2000 - 12:10 pm Hey people I would just like to say this in response to what Hibaq said regarding the issue of people especially teenagers these days acting a whole lot younger than their actual age.I couldn't agree more;however, I think that this problem is not one that only you guys face in London, rest assured or rather unassured that this is also happening in the States which is where I am currently residing.I believe that the main problem with our youth these days especially the more recent immigrants is that they are unguided in their approach to life as a whole. We as the young generation have to many times fend for ourselves because there are no adults to positively guide the youth. There are no adults or parents for that matter who are fluent in the language of the country they reside in, have a clear concept of the fact that the young people by coming to this country become automatically bicultural and of course have to juggle the two. Those are my thoughts sisters and I have a lot more too..but I have to say that it is a pleasure and it gives me great pride to see my fellow somalis be it male or female who have such a strong command of the english language.Feel free to give me your blunt and unpolished thoughts and take of each other people.Chao!

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Saturday, October 21, 2000 - 05:39 am Hello..Hello my dear Sistah....I've been around a while..this is what I personally think is the problem Hana"..I went to Saudi arabia back in 1988 I reside there since 1989 where I moved to London UK.., when I first arrived in Saudi arabia I was with my older sister, the taxi from the airport I could not seat beside my sister inside the cap why..I don't know, following day I visited my cousins guess what!..Girls has different rm from the guys which is fine but..i tried to Holla to my cousin girl..and my aunt wouldn't let me enter the damn room and i was like why i knocked the door and I wanna holla to my cousin, my aunt told me that this is not somalia and you can holla girls later when they covered up by the gown..I was like are they siting naked in there or what.. naah my aunt replied it's Islamic culture we have to seperate girls from the boys,, I told her I knew that back home ..i never shared room with my cousin girls so what is ya point, anyway to make the long story short..I left Middle east to London UK..here I arrive seeing some girls and boys trying to adopt western culture so fast and I was like what on earth is going on, yesterday I was in the Middle east, that Somalis live there adopted arab Culture so fast and here I am boys and girls speaking Batwa.. telling me "waya gowan rude boy" and stuff like that..ok..I lived uk since 1997 left to USA..here I come again most somalis who reside in USA were somali asylees from Kenya...most of them or should I say all of them born Janaury 1st...and after few yrs from Ottanga kenya, they're already acting like sista solja and cash money dirty south..talking like "gettho thug" telling me "yo Dogg wassup " .no disrespect but..my point is I met somalis who's called BIGGY, SNOOP etc.. so here I am again Nice to meet you Somalis Americanized..this is my point Hana..I went at first 1) Middle east..saw how somalis adopt arab Culture so fast 2) come to London Uk met Rude Boys-n-Rude Gals 3) come here in USA met BIGGY n SNOOP...what does that telling you and me...that we SOMALIS may be have RELIGION but like other nations we don't have Culture nor Self Steam..so to answer your Q? we Somalis, the reason (girls n Boys) act Childish is that NO Self steam and NO Self Respect.. I hope that will answer your Q? Hana..and this is my small little Idea..may Allaah Bless you ...So Long.... any Comments pls don't hesitate to e-mail me "ahaji@uswest.net"

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Monday, October 23, 2000 - 01:25 pm salam all, i must acknowledge that this is an extremlly interesting and facinating debate. i'm perhaps some what older(19yrs) than most of the young ppl in here. and i also live in west london. never the less we are all part the new generation and the new hope of our beutiful motherland SOMALIA. i left somalia at age of 4yrs old, and moved 2 egypt where i stayed for 2yrs than i moved 2 syria where i lived for 5years, than i migrated 2 holland where i stayed for 5years, than finally i migrated 2 here england where i'm styaing put 4 the last 6years. so like u can c in my whole life i didn't stay or get settled in 1 country , but i have been travelling and migrating from 1 country 2 another, and this sadly is the case of many of my fellow somali youngsters. therefore that could be one of the reason why they are adopting the culture and the way of living that the host country posses. another relevant factor or reason is the cut of their real age by about about a couple of years at least 2 meet the aseylum needs of the country (daada qaxuntika) as a result they are being put in 2 classes of younger students, which automatclly sets their age and mental clock 2 those of class mates. i'll be honest with you, i'm or was shall i say one of those young ppl who adopt the culture of the host very rapidly, and i must praise that i have been rised very well by my familly and thankfully i have been blest with a numbrer of older brothers and sisters who have influnced me greatly, so therefore i never completly lost track of who i'm, my langauge, relegion or culture. still though when u r with the rest of the boys u sub-consiouslly or perhaps automaticlly if i may say start acting and behaving like them, which isn't always 2 saya the least very healthy nor beneficial. however, i have been blesst with the ability 2 know what is right and what is wrong, and what is good 4 me and what isn't, so therefore while still being one of the boys i go 2 my college where i'm doing vocational A levels second and final year, work part time and live my life 2 the full. i really wish that my friends and fellow generation memebrs where without being arrogant or big headed some what like me, i wish they knew what is good 4 them. like i sister mentioned it earlier most of them, if not all of them could be considered as being low lifes, because the reason being they do nothiong else but smoke weed and rop ppl, they are basiclly good @ nothing they dont attend any colleges, work AND for god sake they don't even know how attract or speech up the members of the opposite sex, and that is a fact. ahahaha i consistenlly feel they are some what jealous or perhaps envy of me, the reason being i do all the things that they will love 2 be doing, but which they really DONT. believe it or not but 1 or 2 of them have developed mental problems and depressions due 2 their lack of living, and many are on the root 2 follow, while others are currently in jail and again many are on the root 2 following them in to the cell. i personally have tried and tell them that this isn't the way 2 go and that this will only lead 2 neglect and regret in later life, i have treid to make them understand that we have a great a opportunity 2 make something of our selvs and that its our duty 2 do our best 2 successed because we have the hopes and expectations of a whole nation up on our shoulders. the day we return home ppl will ask us u have been away 4 so long in europe, america,etc..., so what have u 2 bring back to the nation and the country, what can u contribute 2 the rebuilding process? and the above situation is not only for the guys but also 4 the girls. still though it has 2 be and highlighted that there are many hard working, intellegent , opportunaty realising and firmly graping somali youngesters both girls and guys( although girls being more by far...). so therefore the future is still very bright(although it could get even brighter) and lets hope that one day b 4 its 2 little 2 late the under achieving brothers and sisters will realise what is at stake. and finally i liked pay a full tribute and respect 2 all the brothers and sisters that so maturlly, kindly, intellectually and fully contributed 2 this debate( dym if u guys and girls are thinking this deeply than there is bound 2 be a brighter future inshallah)... sisters and brothers try and advice the not as well achieving sisters and brothers, someone of the same generation could have much more greatier affect and infuluence on his/her fellow generation members than a parent or an older person ever can. piece out .... wasalam calaykum waa raxmatu lahi waa barakatu.
