(SomaliNet)The Libyan the interior ministry said in a statement on Saturday that authorities have broken up a drug network and seized hashish, heroin and cocaine as well as alcohol.
Without saying how many people were detained or identifying their nationalities, the ministry said: "A group of people were arrested for importing and trafficking in drugs and other narcotics."
The authorities seized 200 kilos (440 pounds) of hashish as well as 500 grams of heroin and cocaine and an unspecified quantity of alcohol.
The consumption of alcohol, banned by Islam, is strictly prohibited in Libya. Drug trafficking carries the death penalty.
In July the authorities destroyed 12 tonnes of hashish and 42 000 narcotic pills, which the ministry had said was enough to kill more than 30 000 people.
Libya is a key transit route for drugs that come mainly from Egypt, Morocco and Turkey. - Sapa-AFP
