Kenya: Govt tussles with ODM over review talks Sun. April 01, 2007 01:07 pm.- By David Odoki. -
(SomaliNet) The Kenyan Government yesterday wrote to the Leader of the Official Opposition, asking him to name a 10-member team to negotiate a minimum reforms package before elections.
This gave a clear indication that the Kenyan State does not wish to deal directly with ODM-Kenya and doesn't recognise the list of 12 MPs the party picked for the reforms talks ODM-K, which groups Kanu and the Liberal Democratic Party, is not a recognised parliamentary party.
Yesterday, Kenyan Vice-President Moody Awori, in his capacity as Leader of Government Business in Parliament sent the letter to Mr Uhuru Kenyatta after a meeting of 12 MPs picked by the Government to spearhead the revival of the review.
It is the clearest indication so far that the Government has changed its approach to the talks and opted to use the established institutions of Parliament by asking the Leader of the Official Opposition to pick the team to discuss the reforms needed before the General Election expected to be held in December.(The Nation)
