(SomaliNet) The Ethiopian government will be opening its embassy in Biadoa, the temporarily capital for the transitional federal government of Somalia in the next days. Reliable sources said on Saturday.
Somali ambassador to Ethiopia Abdikarin Lakanyo and other senior officials of Ethiopian foreign ministry will participate in the opening ceremony of the embassy in Baidoa, the capital city of Bay region in southwest Somalia. Ethiopia’s new embassy in Somalia will mark its first full diplomatic office in Somalia since the fall of former president Mohamed Said Bare in 1991.
Earlier, the Ethiopian government has opened its embassy in the self-proclaimed republic of Somaliland, which widely infuriated most of the Somali MPs in Baidoa. The government of Abdulahi Yusuf condemned it as initiative that Ethiopians want to damage Somali integrity. The MPs are varied to the Ethiopian plans to open its embassy in Baidoa. Some see Ethiopia as a threat to Somalia sovereignty and say we should not let it happen, while others welcomed the new embassy, saying it will be more beneficial to Somali-Ethiopia relations.
