Mohamed Abdi Farah

(SomaliNet) Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, the chairperson of the Islamic executive committee said on Sunday Ethiopia government continues to directly and intentionally interfere in Somalia affairs sending its troops in Somalia and described it as in violation of international law, Somalinet correspondent says.

In a press conference held today at Ramadan Hotel in north of the Somalia capital Mogadishu, Sheikh Sharif stated that large number of Ethiopian troops have entered regions of Bakol and Bay in southwest of Somalia to protect the transitional federal government.

He appealed Ethiopian government to immediately withdraw its troops from Somalia and the constant aggression in the region. He also urged the world community to see the clear antagonism by Ethiopia government

Asked about the recent statement of Osama Bin Laden, the leader of Al-Qaeda Network urging Somalis to support the powerful Islamists and fight president Yusuf and his allies, Sharif declined to comment on more about that question, distancing from being contacted with Bin Laden. "Osama Bin Laden has expressed his opinion similar to other individuals," he said.

Sheikh Sharif said it is up to Somali people whether they would fight Yusuf’s government or would work with it.

"We are telling the international community that Islamic courts were born from social upraising after they couldn’t stand with the oppression from the warlords who divided the country into fiefdoms," Sheikh Sharif, moderate man in the Islamic courts said adding that no one has helped Islamic courts with their struggle except Somali society.

He said the objective of the Islamic courts union is to restore peace and stability in the country and warned any deployment of foreign troops in Somalia.

Earlier Ethiopian government dismissed the allegation that its troops had crossed into Somalia.

Sheikh Sharif Ahmed also rejected that Islamic courts receive fund from Saudi Arabia and Yemen as US government accusation says. "It is untrue and US continues to aggravate the tension and justify for war," he said.
